The whole thing is an idea taken from Sassanid Zoroastrianism. They had the belief in Sosyant or savior. The Shia simply retrofitted the Zastorshti idea to Islam. Just like they want to turn Nowruz into Ali's birthday. 

This is very common among religions. Christianity took many pagan gods and turned them into saints. In Iran they needed to glue Islam into Iranian culture thus Shia took the Zartoshti savior and turned it into Imam Zaman.

There are other examples also. The mourning for Imam Hossain is retrofit of mourning for Siyavash. If you know the legend Siyavash was murdered in Turan. His murder was mourned in Iran until around the Mongol invasion. S

What is "gheybat"

Can someone with a simple logic explain what is "gheybat"? Is he in a parallell universe so we can not see him, is he temporarily dead, or living dead?

 According to historic facts such person never existed, never mentioned by Quran, Muhammed or Ali. One would think that such things would stop sane people beleiving in bullshit like this, but then again there is no mention of Jesus in any historic book either, so it is not just Shites that beleive in ghosts.
