Babak Najafi

Best First Film Award at Berlin Festival

Born in Tehran in 1975, Najafi was honored with the Berlin Film Festival's Best First Film Award for mother-son drama "Sebbe". Based on his original script, "Sebbe" centres on a 15-year-old boy who lives with his mother Eva in a suburb. Bullied at school, he escapes reality thanks to his technical skills, which he uses to create new objects or play tricks on others. But most importantly, according to producer Rebecka Lafrenz, “It’s a strong story about a boy’s relationship with his mother, something that can appeal to international audiences”. Najafi came to Sweden at the age of 11.
