Mehdi Karroubi

Car 'hit by gunfire'

AFP – The armoured car of one of Iran's opposition leaders, Mehdi Karroubi, was hit by gunfire in the northern town of Qazvin, his party's website reported on Friday, but only the windows were damaged. Karroubi was in town to attend a mourning ceremony for slain opposition protesters organised by a reformist former MP, Sahamnews.org said. "Around 500 basiji (members of the Basij Islamic militia) and residents of nearby villages surrounded the place where he was and attacked the building with stones, breaking windows," it said. After four hours, anti-riot police finally intervened to get Karroubi out of the building. "As his car was pulling away, it was attacked and hit by gunfire. But, as it is an armoured car, only the windows were damaged." >>>

I love Mr Karroubi and good

by AsteroidX on

I love Mr Karroubi and good clerics. My issue is not with individuals or religions, but with a corrupt regime. I am hoping he is one that can make changes and set an example for the future if IRI does stay. Even if IRI is overthrown we need the good spiritual figures for Muslims.

Karroubi's Armored SUV

by Sargord Pirouz on

I believe Karroubi's armored SUV is provided to him by the IRI, and that his armed bodyguards are accorded official IRI weapons permits.

This wasn't an assassination attempt, rather it was an effort at intimidation. Eggs, tomatoes and rocks were also hurled at the cleric, and the Iran's police forces were very hard pressed to offer a cordon for Karroubi's armored SUV to pass (it took many efforts).

(It must have been difficult for Karroubi's driver to travel back to Tehran from Qazvin with a busted bullet-resistant windshield).

"...his party's website reported on Friday.....".

Az roobah porseedan shahedet keeyeh?  Goft dombam.

I'm sure most Iranians here are patriots and have more than sufficient intelligence to understand hearsay.   It is clear some of the posters are biased or uninformed.   Yes, there is a lot to improve in Iran but let's not be tools.  Be balanced and think about reports likes these. Ay val.

Is it possible this was staged?!

by Faramarz_Fateh on

IRI paid and trained killers know better than anyone else Karrubi's car was armored.  Why would they then fire low caliber guns at it?

I don't trust ANY (repeat, ANY) Islamic clergy.

I hope no one with your mindset ever be part of the next system in Iran. My way or highway.

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

I agree with Anahid

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

Karroubi may be a Mullah and for that I disagree with him. However he does not deserve to get hit. He has been on the "right" side of things this time. The whole process must move away from guns into dialog. Less killing more talking.

this is one mullah that I want to ride in an armored car

by Anahid Hojjati on

I really do not put Karroubi after the bravery he has shown in last few months with all mullahs in the same basket.  I am happy that he rides in an armored car.

Smart Mollahs

by AlexInFlorida on

Mollahs now drive in armored cars.  Smart.

Khomeini said the more Mollahs you kill the stronger Molahs will get.

So lets test the hypothesis.

Maybe he should get hit

by mahmoudg on

Two things happen.  First, one less Mullah to contend with (itself a noble act), two it would be a spark needed for even more mass prostests to remove, abolish, throw into dustbin, forget forever, Islam and the Islamic Republic.
