Reuters: A strike on Iran could be "very, very destabilizing" and have unintended consequences for the Middle East, the top U.S. military officer said on Thursday, stressing that diplomacy was crucial. Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. military was prepared for any eventuality in Iran, despite being stretched by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He pointed to potential resources in the Navy and Air Force. "I think that outcome (of a nuclear Iran) is potentially a very, very destabilizing outcome ... on the other hand, when asked about striking Iran, specifically, that also has a very, very destabilizing outcome," Mullen told a gathering at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a think-tank >>>

Not the same as Saddam invasion
by keyvanj on Sun Jan 10, 2010 01:15 AM PSTIran-Iraq war was about defending our territorial integrity against Arab aggression and saving our Persian heritage from being Arabized, not the case now. Iranians aren't as stupid as we think.. they know the war with Saddam could have been over by year no.2 with clear Iranian win, and instead was extented for nearly a decade with arguable Arab win and demoralized population, all to ensure mullahs survival for generations to come (together with 1988 mass executions, etc.).. are they going to fall for the same trick twice? Will Iranians chant death to USA/Israel when the bombs drop or tanks roll in or greet them with flowers and candy and help them?
Bommbing Iran.
by pedro on Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:30 AM PSTBy bombing the nuclear facilities in Iran, billions of dollars will in essence go up the smoke while strengthening the rapist terrorist regime ten folds. Russian will benefit greatly, renders them free of obligation to make the out dated and problematic nuclear facilities function properly, while receiving new contracts to build new facilities for hundreds of billions more. Mullahs will continue ruling ruthlessly and billions more Iranian dollars will go to bribe the world leaders for turning a blind eye to killings, torture and rapes of innocent Iranians. Countries benefiting most from keeping rapist Mullah Regime in power from most benefiting to least are:
USA, Russia, China, Venezuela, Turkey, Britain, Israel, France, Dub, Kuwait, UAE, Germany, and many more. Some benefit directly, such as Venezuela, Russia, China. Others indirectly through sales of arms and war equipment and taking or receiving resources and oil, such as USA, Russia, China, Britain.
Free Iran.

Bombing the opposition
by Jahanshah Javid on Sat Jan 09, 2010 07:57 AM PSTA military strike on Iran under any pretext would not only destabilize the Middle East, but also revive the dying fortunes of the Islamic Republic and create a fresh excuse to justify its miserable existence.
It would effectively destroy the current opposition movement that is shaking the foundations of religious establishment like never before.
