This is part of a menu form the Qajar era. It lists "chelo" and "polo" separately. What is their difference?

chelo, polo, ...
by hamsade ghadimi on Wed Jun 16, 2010 04:45 PM PDTashna has it right. anonymouse, you gave the difference between plain steamed rice (chelo) to plain boiled rice (katteh). polo is rice mixed with something else: shevid polo, sabzi polo, zereshk polo... to complicate it more, we generally use polo for chelo and reserve chelo for chelo kabab.

Far too expensive
by divaneh on Tue Jun 15, 2010 03:51 PM PDTThis is such an expensive restaurant. No way that I pay two abbasi for a glass of doogh. Six Shahi for an extra Kabab? Such rip off. Extra what Kabab? Koobideh, Chenjeh, Barg or what? I bet the portions are small too. And I am sure that Mir Agha hasn't been to Mashhad neither.
After that outrage at his daylight robbery menu, let me answer your question. I think they are both the same. He just wanted to have more items in his menu.
Differece
by آشنا on Tue Jun 15, 2010 02:53 PM PDTChelo= cooked white plain rice as it is in CheloKabob
Polo= cooked rice mixed with other things like meat or vegetables as loubiaPolo, ShireenPolo.
Chelo = katé (steamed) Polo = fluffy rice (steam taken out)
