Observer.com: Here's yet another departure from Newsweek: Ramin Setoodeh, the Newsweek writer behind the magazine's piece about gay actors in straight roles, is leaving to join People magazine. Mr. Setoodeh will start as a senior writer on People's news and human-interest team in the second week of a July, according to a spokesperson for the magazine. In his article about "straight jacketing," Mr. Setoodeh wrote that gay actors fail to convince when playing straight roles, making an example of Sean Hayes who is playing the heterosexual lead in Promises, Promises. Kristin Chenoweth, who costars with Mr. Hayes in Promises, Promises, called Mr. Setoodeh's article "horrendously homophobic," and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and Glee creator Ryan Murphy both publicly criticized Newsweek for publishing the piece. "The point of my essay was not to disparage my own community, but to examine an issue that is being swept under the rug," Mr. Setoodeh wrote in response to criticism >>>
