by yolanda on Fri Jun 11, 2010 07:58 PM PDTThank you, RD, for the link! I watched 1st hour of discussion. It was great....the 3 gentlemen did a great job to bring the awareness to the human right violations in Iran......it is sad to hear IRI pressures Ahmad Batebi to go back Iran to be punished again!

IRI's contempt for human rights
by Shifteh Ansari on Fri Jun 11, 2010 12:34 PM PDTRead complete article here: //www.iranhumanrights.org/2010/06/ebadi-defam...
Excerpts:
“These baseless attacks on Ebadi and her colleagues on the eve of the anniversary of the election demonstrate her indispensable role in exposing Iran’s grave human rights violations on the international stage,” he added.
Ebadi’s husband, Javad Tavasolian, was arrested in July 2009, and subjected to physical and psychological abuse. He was videotaped while in detention and coerced to make defamatory statements about her. He informed Ebadi about his ill-treatment after his release.
At the time of her husband’s arrest, Ebadi announced members of her family, if arrested, should not to hesitate to make false “confessions” against her since the only reason for their harassment and detention would be to pressure her to stop her human rights advocacy.

a world's treasure.The IRI is so stupid to mention her name.
by bushtheliberator on Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:31 PM PDTDuring the Cold War we Westerners idolized the resisters behind the Iron Curtain,and Mrs. Ebadi seems to be the ONLY person who can bring the nature of Iran's struggle to a world wide audience.The constant chatter of Iranian NukeNews can not be allowed to drown out the story of the human rights drama in Iran.Am I the only one who sees the IRI's attack on her as self defeating ? I'm from far away Texas,but I can imagine 14 year old Iranian girls seeing this,and we know how dangerous little girls can be.

by Shifteh Ansari on Thu Jun 10, 2010 05:40 PM PDTDo you expect the Iranian government to change its tactics after 30 years? The same "expose" style used for the finest Iranian intellectuals is used here. Shirin Ebadi is a source of national pride and hope for all Iranians worldwide. Her impeccable background and years of pro bono legal services for Iranian prisoners of conscience and her efforts to safeguard the rights of Iranian children earned her the Nobel Peace Prize and the animosity of the likes of Hossein Shariatmadari. They have obviously captured her poor husband and made him say these things. We must not hold any of this against Ms. Ebadi or her husband who is doing what many others have had to do under duress and torture in Islamic Republic of Iran. See this October 2009 article on DW Persian about Shirin Ebadi's family's harassment:
خواهر و همسر شیرین عبادی تهدید شدند
//www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,4810594,00.ht...

by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Thu Jun 10, 2010 04:42 PM PDTIt is so disgusting that a regime would threaten a poor old man to come on tv to criticize his wife. Anytime one thinks that this regime can not sink any lower, one is surprised how truly disgusting this terrorist regime is. Torture and rape of young men and women is their policy. Putting this poor old man under pressure, a pressure that could result in his heart attack and death, is disgusting beyond belief.
Dr. Ebadi is a most honorable human being. The Nobel Peace Prize has been given to many individuals including Nelson Mandela, Desmund Tutu, Barack Obama.
This regime lacks sharaf, ensaniyat, vojdan.
