population numbers for
by hamsade ghadimi on Fri May 14, 2010 09:19 PM PDTpopulation numbers for tehran are murky and underestimated for political reasons: you're citing wiki's estimate (8.5 million) of tehran proper. google cites the metropolitan tehran (13.5 million) which is more accurate since the suburbs of tehran are considered part of the city of tehran. andamaghnejad says it's 10 million. as an example, someone coming from velenjak to another country (or town in iran) and when asked what city you're from, they answer tehran. it's kind of a simple concept that is lost on some of our dear shahrestanis. so f.y.i., shemroon, zaferanieh, gheitariesh, shemroon, shahrak gharb, akhtaran, ... are part of tehran.
in the summer time, in parks of tehran, there are families, homeless, migrant laborers (from other cities) are sleeping on all the park benches and the grass in the parks. on consecutive days during my stay in tehran, at park laleh, i couldn't find a place to sit down on a bench at 6 in the morning. when the weather is relatively good, there are many people come to tehran to make money (and sleep under the stars). around 7 a.m., the park ranger in goes around blowing in his whistle so that everyone wake up and stop being horizontal in the park. you should go and check it out.
but you see, the population of tehran is not the real issue for you. what is it that you really want to say about the above video and your initial comment. go ahead, out with it.
and you can't have it both ways: defending iri, and not wanting to be labeled as someone who defends iri (defenition of iri apologist). i wouldn't have thought that calling you an apologist would be hard for you to swallow. ;)
Funny
by seamorgh on Fri May 14, 2010 07:29 PM PDTI think someone who does not know the difference between capital city Tehran (population 8.5 million = 11.8% of Iran's population) and the province of Tehran (population 13.5 million = 18.8% of Iran's population) should not allow himself to comment on anything, let alone Iran.
By the way, only someone who has never been to Tehran would say that Tehran becomes overcrowded during summer times. It’s the other way around buddy.
But seriously, you should publish something on the effect of population size on protests. You might at least get a grant from NED or OSI , if not a Nobel Prize.
Also, you still have failed to answer my two questions and have instead resorted to name calling. That is the definition of Ad hominem, if you did not know. Finally, you called yourself an idiot, not me. I just made a statement.

by hamsade ghadimi on Fri May 14, 2010 06:12 PM PDTseamorgh, don't lose your cool buddy. first of all, tehran's population is estimated at around 14 million which i think it's low. furthermore, tehran population soars in the spring and summer months by migrant workers from other towns. you need to visit the old country once in a while. i'll give you a prize if you can find a bench in a park to sleep on in tehran, on a summer night. the prize is a sandis and two bananas. the population of iran is estimated at about 72 million. you do the math, revise your numbers and get back to me (the number is probably closer to 25% than 12%). you can search "tehran population" and "iran population" in google. ;)
by the way, look up definition of ad hominem attack. i stated a fact that you're an iri apologist which by definition means someone who defends the rapist and murderous regime of iri. my evidence are your comments on this site.
and it's a good thing that i don't have a noble prize, because being iranian, the iri would find a way to steal it from me and put my family in jail. i hope you didn't take anything personal. :)
For your info..
by seamorgh on Fri May 14, 2010 12:27 PM PDTFirst of all, less than 12% of Iran's population lives in Tehran and less than 4% of Iran’s population lives north of Enghelab Street. Look it up (if you have difficulty with the math, let me know buddy. I’ll help you out). Secondly, are you suggesting that depth and breadth of protests have mostly to do with population size and not the depth and breadth of grievances??? They should give you a Nobel Prize for figuring that out. Finally, resorting to Ad hominem attacks is a sign of idiocy.

by hamsade ghadimi on Fri May 14, 2010 11:59 AM PDTquarter of iran's population live in tehran. and they are more up on their technology. let me know how the survey results come up? i'm not going to spend energy researching for an apologist. :)
READ AGAIN
by seamorgh on Fri May 14, 2010 11:54 AM PDTI asked why MOST of the clips are from Tehran. I never said there are NO clips from the provinces. Tell you what, I bet you if you do a quick review of ALL (or a random sample of ALL) of the clips available, more than 95% of them would be from Tehran. If not, prove me wrong.

by hamsade ghadimi on Fri May 14, 2010 11:31 AM PDTyou should flap your wings a bit and get off your egg once in a while. during the last year, we saw plenty of videos from all over iran. all over. you can search this site and elsewhere to see them. if you hve difficulty, let me know buddy; i'll help you out.
meanwhile, here's your hero's, ahmadi's, promotional video for his candidacy from last year. enjoy.

Why only?
by seamorgh on Fri May 14, 2010 11:25 AM PDTWhy are most of clips we see are from Tehran? Could it be that the rest of the country does not think like residents of tehran?
