Leyla Rouhi

2010 Massachusetts Professor of the Year

williams.edu: “She has written over twenty letters of recommendation for me, hosted me in her house in Vermont on several occasions, gone out for countless meals with me, and guided me along a path that I can only hope will resemble the one that her life has taken.” So says Elizabeth Spragins — a 2007 Williams graduate and doctoral candidate at Stanford — of Leyla Rouhi, John B. McCoy and John T. McCoy Professor of Romance Languages.

Recommendations such as this played their part in persuading The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) to name Prof. Rouhi as the 2010 Massachusetts Professor of the Year. She was one of 38 state winners selected from more than 300 top professors in the United States.

An Iranian who received a B.A. from Oxford, Rouhi speaks five languages. When pursuing her Ph.D. at Harvard, she was the six-time winner of a Certificate for Excellence in Teaching at Harvard University and also was awarded the Harvard University Travel Study Prize for Best Teaching Fellow in the languages >>>
