"Bavar 2" Flying Boats

Iran unveils squadrons of flying boats

CNN: Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported. The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency. "Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz. The delivery comes as Iran celebrates its Week of Sacred Defense, which commemorates its eight-year-long resistance to the 1980 Iraqi invasion, according to the Fars News Agency >>>

For Iran sinking two ships

by AMIR1973 on

For Iran sinking two ships might be enough to accomplish their objectives and declare victory...knowing that sinking two large ships could be a great negative message to my people back home.

If there were ever a direct military conflict between the U.S. and IRI, and if the IRI were to sink "two large ships" belonging to the U.S., what will America's reaction be? Do you think the U.S. would let things end like that? "Amrika hich ghalati nemitavanad bekonad". Is that how it is?

Both sides are right!

by Abarmard on

This is a joke when it comes to a real battle but the objective is the key. What it is that you (Iran) wish(s) to accomplish? For Iran sinking two ships might be enough to accomplish their objectives and declare victory.

The war scenario in the region and most of the world has changed. US would not want to bomb Iran to stone age, as some call it, since it won't benefit but harm US in the long run. Therefore US hands might be tight to fight Iran wanting to limit population casualties. Similar to Iraq, US is fighting groups and not countries! In Iran the case would be some government forces or infrastructure. Iran is setting their defenses based on those scenarios and not a "real war".

In a real war scenario, people who joke about Iran's weapons are correct, and in limited target bombing the other side is correct. If I were a military general, I would not take any of these developments as a joke and try to figure the combined forces and usage of these machines and their possible threats, knowing that sinking two large ships could be a great negative message to my people back home.

Swarm tactic against who, the sheikh nesheens?

by kazem0574 on

Swarm tactic would work against sheikh nesheens or Saudies in the area .

However, I don’t believe they ever dared or dare attacking Iran directly. Instead would become war support centres for US and from what we heard potentially even Israel.

But get real, we have seen how forces like the US clean the scene from a far, long before they (US) have to worry about 35 knots swarms of what ever that could suggest the possibility of endangering their forces. Remember the IR swarm armada or anything else has to be stored some place and its vulnerable in their (US) phase 1 attack.

In a real war scenario they (US) "may" lose a ship or two initially, but then its pay back time in a big time by the US.

That’s what many people including me are against, as it will get out of hand and lead to devastating our none military (or military for that matter) infrastructure which belongs to the people of Iran, but paid for without their say so by IR.

I hate the thought of a stone being thrown at Iran or our people and am against any attack on Iran, such a war won’t leave much for our already suffering nation.

We must not go to any war again and not so openly invite others to attack our country, though some in IR may wrongly see an attack on Iran as strateagy to save Akhondism.

For those slow to grasp

How easy for bunch of losers to make fun of technological advance based on regional need. These are the same guys who brag Iran being powerful with US military!!! So WHAT? if you are a dumb Saudi, doesn't mean that you are some shit. Here is Iran making weapons it needs based on their strategy...Read below, Solid defense for this product...Thanks Sargord:

..."See how easy it is to dismiss this stuff solely on the examination of technology? I'm being kind to some of the comments I have already seen from others...

But as I observe Iranian military capabilities in the maritime domain, it isn't the specifics of the technology that concerns me - it is the commitment Iran is making at the tactical level to technologies that fit a certain capability set intended to exploit specific capabilities fielded by their opponents. The Iranians appear to believe that swarm tactics give them advantages over the capabilities of western naval powers (specifically the US) to which they define as their greatest threat. The question is: In the confined waters of the Persian Gulf, does quantity of small, agile forces leveraging swarm tactics offer a tactical advantage over the capabilities of high quality, larger but numerically inferior naval vessels of the US? Is the break point the number of assets or is it a capabilities based metric of combined arms that can be leveraged?

When you start going down the road of what 20 small boats at 35+ knots attacking a destroyer looks like, the questions that come to my mind are - how many .50 cal machine guns do you have on your ship? How quickly can you get ammunition to those guns if they must sustain fire over long periods of time. How protected are those positions from incoming machine gun fire?

The weakness of our Navy isn't air attack from a tactical fighter, nor is it the ASM attack from a fast attack missile craft - indeed fighting those capabilities are the strength of our ships. The weakness comes in the form of swarms - and mixing several of these flying boats with a couple dozen boghammers in a swarm attack will result in:
CIWS ammunition being exhausted quickly
SeaRAM ammunition being exhausted quickly
Reliance on small arms to fight off the attack"

nice toy

by azadi5 on

I think this is a good toy to have for recreational purposes, though the idea is nothing new. ever heard of sea planes? now, as far as having these things for defensive measures against imaginary enemies, well, unless these enemies are fishermen on their boats, then I don't see much use for it. It's not fast enough for a dog fight with let's say an F18, or carrying enough ammunition to cause a dent on a war ship. Maybe it can be used by police or coast guard.

thanks for the link red wine.   these planes may be useful for standard coast guard operations but seem as a joke for defense.  shooting them would be like shooting ducks in a barrel. silly propaganda.  wasn't iraq billed as one of the largest armies in the world while "baghdad bob" still had a job in sadam's gov't?

here's one of the pilots of "bavar." :)

Speed talks the first word when you are attacked. And no one says this is an original idea and the patent belongs to Iran, we are saying that Iran CAN make all of these equipments, that's the news.

Mahmoudg, no talk of strike anymore? lol. Now you know how stupid you looked when talking about little Israel striking great Iran?

Yes, any one of these "toys" makes attacking Iran more difficult. And YES, I like it. I don't like Khamenei and his mini me, but I like strong Iran on her two feet.

a 4 stoke VW engine to lift this useless bird into the sky, to do what exactly????????, confront the YF22, or the F16, or the bombs released from a submerged nuclear sub?  Iran's useless attempt to fool the world, just like its President, that ii ia a power more so than what it is.  this type of a show will not fool the West, perhaps at best a detraction for the internal consumption of a few branwashed basij.  But nothing more than that.
