Merchants square off with government over tax hike

Los Angeles Times: Tehran's main gold bazaar is usually glittering with precious baubles and jewelry fit for royalty, but the last several days have seen it shuttered and empty as the union of goldsmiths and jewelers strikes against a 3% value-added tax. "We'll stay on strike until the negotiation gets results," Ali Mosavi, a goldsmith in the bazaar, told Babylon & Beyond. "This is the third year we are protesting and so far we have been able to resist [the tax hike]." The strike appears to be affecting the retail and wholesale gold markets of Tehran's main bazaar as well as the markets of other Iranian cities like Esfahan, Mashhad and Tabriz, but not non-union jewelry stores outside the bazaars >>>

در بطن خودش این بازار تهران شخصیت های فرهیخته ای مانند صفار هرندی، حاج محسن عراقی، محسن رفیقدوست، اسداله بادامچیان، برادران عسگر اولادی و اسداله لاجوردی رو در خودش پرورش داده.  پس با خدمات درخشنده ای که این افراد به فرهنگ، هنر و تجارت مملکت داشته اند، مستحق الذکات نیز می باشند.  باشد تا این قشر نخبگان مملکت تا سالیان سال برای این کشور سیاست مدار و خدمه جوخه اعدام پرورش بدن و اخذ مالیات از این بلندپایگان حکومت ظلمی است که کفاره آن تا قیامت بر سر موودیان مالیاتی باقی می ماند.

Relocate the royalty class & the jewlry/goldsmith union to Bushehr next to the nuclear plant. Level the Bazar. It is too old & most of the financial corruption takes place there. Such will also help with Tehran overcrowding.

As he correctly points out, a value added tax will increase revenue for the government and will help steer the government away from dependence on oil as the sole source of income.
