by Mash Ghasem on Fri Apr 22, 2011 02:59 AM PDTMonda jan, just realized it was you that posted the clip. I mentioned and really feel he's entiltled to any and all awards he receives, or we should say him and his team; Arabi, the 7 dwarfs,... and I think he's more than just an entertainer, he's politically sharp, I enjoy the show very much when it's funny and relevant. Just the fact that an Iranian TV host could appear on Daily Show and provide an alternative, more balanced, complex face of Iranians, me thinks deserves an award, for stereotype-smashing! I would not be surprised at all if he himself would also make such a statement about the choice. Having all such admirations for him and you Monda jan, I still think prisoners in Iran should always be the first choice; especially those on death-row :or dying because of homicidal neglegence ( Osanlo): or spent a life time in jail (Amirentezam). As usuall it's easier said than done: how to creatively and effectively combines all these elements and factors? thank you Monda jan, cheers
P.S. At some point last year me thinks they might have had some budgeting issue, tis a government program and with all these cuts, who knows who's next, they're both talented, they'll figure out something.

Great choice, Monda!
by Ari Siletz on Thu Apr 21, 2011 12:40 PM PDTThe choice of Kambiz Hosseini acknowledges more than just a man. It acknowledges the influence of artists--in this case a satirist--in how we look at our society and how this awareness shapes our politics. This sort of recognition has has been overdue--our Osanlous have had less trouble being appreciated by us for their impact on politics.
With almost no effort, important satirists come to mind who have had (and still have) influence over our civilization and politics:
Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Woody Allen, Obeid Zakani, Iraj Mirza.
It is insightful of Mardomak to recognize Kambiz Hosseini. And insightful of you to recognize the recognition:)
Dear Monda,
by Bavafa on Thu Apr 21, 2011 12:37 PM PDTMy comment was not in any way referenced nor related to your choice of "Iranian of the day" and/or blog but rather in general and some what influenced/motivated by the "Five-Star Personality" pick award and also in reference to the comments made here which I felt to endorsing some of them as I share those views.
Anyway, I had not meant to dismiss your choice for Iranian of the day nor person of admiration. Again, we are all entitled to our opinion and based on your pervious posts, I do have much respect for your opinion/point of view.

Bavafa and MG,
by Monda on Thu Apr 21, 2011 11:28 AM PDTSee if the following points make sense to you.
1) Kambiz Hosseini demands much Recognition and Respect for his brand of journalism, acting and comic relief - through Parazit.
I am a huge fan of Hosseini, Arbabi and their show because: After all these years of living in diaspora, I don't feel limited to silent processing of the terror inside Iran. Frequently with the added price of feeling the Helplessness, Hopelessness of it all... feeling like crap, with all the tears and fears and guilt and pain that I have experienced as part of my relationship with my beloved motherland.
I love Kambiz because he's original in his intelligent reporting style and acting humour (he's improving his physical acting domain by each show too ). i am aware that Kambiz and Saman are not the first to incorporate comic relief in political news reporting/ shows. But Jon Stewart et al do Not focus on Iran/ Us.
Writing reporting of Kambiz Hosseini and Parazit's brand of journalism works great -- because it balances out the different levels of understanding about Iran. It makes us think, not just cry or hate. It offers the coolness and Fun that no matter what age we are, we crack up with. And dammit, we need that! Comedy is Good for the Soul.
And dears Mehrdad & MG, please consider:
2) No one is taking away from the courageous, tortured people some of whose names you have mentioned. No on can - No one will. (We're talking about humans here).
Send your picks to JJ, like I do. In case those personalities have not been the Iranian of the Day.
If you ask me, many significant, brilliant, hardworking, freedom-loving people inside and outside of Iran, don't need Our nominations on this site or that site. Their wisdom and action are eternally etched in our brains! Our media in diaspora however, can only bring and keep those souls alive and studied and talked about - depending on where We/ the viewers come from. Kambiz Hosseini, for one, works on that, right there! With much talent and hard-work and Fun. (Khelaaas)
We are all entitled to our opinion,
by Bavafa on Thu Apr 21, 2011 10:51 AM PDTlikes, dislikes and being indifferent to
As far as I am concerned, putting folks such as Mansour O'sanloo with others such as Kambiz Hosseini in one category is an insult to all of their suffering and what has made them to be of a hero in the eyes of many Iranians.
This ought not to be translated as my dislike of Kambiz Hosseini however. For me, he is an entertainer that has found himself a niche in poking fun at IRI in the safety of the West. In many ways, we all are doing more or less the same thing here on IC only he has a much wider audience and a budget while making a buck or two out of it.

by Mash Ghasem on Thu Apr 21, 2011 10:31 AM PDTpep, no body is attacking anyone here. Hossainy deserves everything he gets, and we see him here EVERY SINGLE WEEK and enjoy it very much, when he's funny.
Point being, it might not be a bad idea to give awards to people who we don't see every week, and have been in prison for 32 years now ( that's almost a life time), or to ones who are about to die of a heart attack while incarcerrated,or...
sort of a more immediate, top priority cases if you will, cheers
DA, we know. Didn't he say , please get outta here?
personal , I know it will read very silly, but
by ComraidsConcubine on Thu Apr 21, 2011 10:16 AM PDTI dreamt of Osanlou last night. Poor, decent man.I saw him. Trying and succeeding in not letting any of his cells scream.
and it's pathetic to say of me that my thoughts are with him. I know.

by Fool Me twice... on Thu Apr 21, 2011 08:56 AM PDTWhat has really become of us? R.I.P Fereydoun Farokhzad said:" khak bar sar e oon mardomi ke ba'ad az tamam e in sal-ha hanooz nafahmidan ye farghi hast bein e AAlem va Jaani." What is really our problem? is it that we don't want to see the truth? is it more convenient to go with the flow? why should we not ask who really is directing this machine in which Parazit is a part of. why shouldn't we be concern about the new leadership of VOA, and NIAC connection? for those who are not familiar with NIAC, it is the lobbying arm of the Islami Regime. We are so quick to make undesreved heros, and hold them up high. why shouldn't the personality of the year be Mansour O'sanloo? why not Amir-Entezam? why not Zahra Bahrami?the list goes on. My beef is not with kambiz hoseini. and i wish him all the best. What frightens me is the creation of this pseudo opposition. When your enemy directly or indirectly creats oppositions and fools you to believe it as your own. What good does this long history of ours do, if we do not learn anything from our previous mistakes? On and On and On...
"Kaar e jonoon e Maa be tamashaa keshideh Ast... Ya'nee toe ham bia ke tamashaaye maa ko'nee." Froughi

p.s. I truley believe the Artist who has done much in short time to better our culture is SHAHIN NAJAFI. Unfortunately he is not given support because he tells the truth.
