What Layla and Ziba ( I do
by Soosan Khanoom on Fri Apr 08, 2011 03:14 AM PDTWhat Layla and Ziba ( I do not know about the other two) are going through is what women had gone through decades ago in the west ........ but today's women in the west have moved on and have reached new and valuable conclusions ........ I would suggest for these two to not wait for forty years or so to reach what women in the west have reached today .....
They can use their brains and educate themselves and live as NOW rather than yesterday ........
Hooshnag,
you won't get it. You actually sound like my 90 years old grandmother !!!
For sure you can never get used to me .. Now go and cheer your favorite poet ......
we all are entitled to our opinion
and I am out of here !
For a non-Faati, you sure argue like one
by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on Fri Apr 08, 2011 02:52 AM PDT"I exactly know what these so called poets and singers have in their minds and are up to," this sounds like my 80 years old uncle, what is such obtuse generalization 'exactly' suppose to mean? If you're allergic to modern Iranian women's poetry that fine, don't blame the poets, it's you. Nothing worth getting used to.
Hooshang
by Soosan Khanoom on Fri Apr 08, 2011 02:44 AM PDTNo I am not confusing anything here . I exactly know what some of these so called poets and singers have in their minds and are up to. They may not be Fatmeh komandos but they are for sure the similar komandos if not worse.....
I am used to them and all the craps they write and sing ......
I am neither Fatmeh Komando nor these type of komendos .....
get used to me as well !
Unfortunately, I do not have the one that is written in original language .......
Nadia lived it ........ that is why her poetry make sense
No desire to open my mouth
What should I sing of...?
I, who am hated by life.
No difference to sing or not to sing.
Why should I talk of sweetness,
When I feel bitterness?
Oh, the oppressor's feast
Knocked my mouth.
I have no companion in life
Who can I be sweet for?
No difference to speak, to laugh,
To die, to be.
Me and my strained solitude.
With sorrow and sadness.
I was borne for nothingness.
My mouth should be sealed.
Oh my heart, you know it is spring
And time to celebrate.
What should I do with a trapped wing,
Which does not let me fly?
I have been silent too long,
But I never forget the melody,
Since every moment I whisper
The songs from my heart,
Reminding myself of
The day I will break this cage,
Fly from this solitude
And sing like a melancholic.
I am not a weak poplar tree
To be shaken by any wind.
I am an Afghan woman,
It only makes sense to moan
It's called : Men turning Women into objects
by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on Fri Apr 08, 2011 02:15 AM PDTapparently it involves something called patriarchy, in Iran it's a religious one,but I could be wrong. You're confusing this male 'gaze' for the poet's point of view. Sort of a knee jerk sanctimonious reaction. Hints of Fati Komando in your first reply.
Ziba Karbasi, Hila Sedighi, Freshteh Sary, Leila Farjami,... these are the guardians of todays women's poetry in Iran, get used to it.
Thanks for Nadia Anjouman, do you have the original, in her language?
Hooshang / The flying part? haha
by Soosan Khanoom on Fri Apr 08, 2011 01:43 AM PDTbut seriously ....... What is it exactly that makes this poem so great?
The part that one may mistaken her with cow or toilet or vacuum ?
What is it that she wants to prove ? that women and yes all of them are covered head to toe and then are dumb and whores .......
May be this is what she is .... may be this is what she sees when she looks into mirror ... may be this is what she has been forced to be ( which I believe none is the case for her) but she can not generalize it for us the women and call it even for sale ......
Since when being a house wife and raising a family is equivalent of being worthless ? Since when women are according to you are institutionally forced into this ?
This poem is not written from heart and as the result can not touch the heart..... This by itself suggests that the poet has not experienced any of this personally. She is just trying to be a few words of here and there for a few audiences of here and there ........
Do you want poetry?..... Do you want to read something about women? I will suggest you read poems of Nadia Anjuman...... The poetry of a women who lived through Taliban which is the worse case scenario yet still is not comparing mother hood and raising a family to the craps that she has brought up in this poem.
Nadia writes so passionately ..... she writes from heart and she touches one's heart because she lived through what she writes about ...... Nadia is not alive anymore .. Sad story of an abused wife ......
Here one of my favorite of hers " A woman who has awoken "
I'm the woman who has awoken
I've arisen and become a tempest through the ashes of my burnt children
I've arisen from the rivulets of my brother's blood
My nation's wrath has empowered me
My ruined and burnt villages fill me with hatred against the enemy,
I'm the woman who has awoken,
I've found my path and will never return.
I've opened closed doors of ignorance
I've said farewell to all golden bracelets
Oh compatriot, I'm not what I was
I'm the woman who has awoken
I've found my path and will never return.
I've seen barefoot, wandering and homeless children
I've seen henna-handed brides with mourning clothes
I've seen giant walls of the prisons swallow freedom in their ravenous stomach
I've been reborn amidst epics of resistance and courage
I've learned the song of freedom in the last breaths, in the waves of blood and in victory
Oh compatriot, Oh brother, no longer regard me as weak and incapable
With all my strength I'm with you on the path of my land's liberation.
My voice has mingled with thousands of arisen women
My fists are clenched with the fists of thousands compatriots
Along with you I've stepped up to the path of my nation,
To break all these sufferings all these fetters of slavery,
Oh compatriot, Oh brother, I'm not what I was
I'm the woman who has awoken
I've found my path and will never return.

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:41 AM PDTSk, you need to be more specific than an insulting abbreviation and one and a half line. Proper tone and language is appreciated.
Does the part about women not being Air plane but able to fly insult you or the vast categories of "objectification" women are institutionally forced into. The poem, music and video were all top notch. One of the best poetry videos I've seen in a while.

by Soosan Khanoom on Thu Apr 07, 2011 09:23 PM PDTI did not like it.... It's an insult to any woman ........
I am fed up with these so called poets and the craps they feed us in the name of poetry !!!!!!
