In 2008, Solmaz developed hands-on earthquake education activities for teachers in China in response to the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. As a geosciences graduate student at the University of Montana, Solmaz helped to build and extend a high-precision GPS ground station network across Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. It's good to see her doing such essential work for fellow Farsi speaking countries and earning some much needed brownie points, however small in grand scheme of things, for Iran's badly battered image.
