Camp Ayandeh

Camping experience changes lives of Iranian-American youths

The mission of Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) is to strengthen the Iranian diaspora community and empower its youth. Camp Ayandeh is like many summer camps. However, this camp does stand out in two unique ways. First, the campers are all Iranian-American... and all of them say, THIS camping experience has changed their lives. Voice of America’s Arash Azizzada was there and explains why and how. Special thanks to IAAB for an amazing time; Ramin Bajoghli, Sahar Sarshar and Dean Hovell.

Have you noticed Ayandeh written backwards is "hednaya" => hendyia => hendi => Khomeini => NIAC!!

Camp Ayandeh is NIAC in Disguise

Subliminally seducing the youth to support NIAC! Go look at the background of the organizers. You will see what I mean.

I think many Iranian children need to participate in the camp because this will be their only connection with Iranians (except their own small family).  Iranians become a stronger model for Iranians at that age.  For example, I liked the girl in the video who had a very good presentation skill and probably leadership.

Many Iranians don't live in cities with strong Iranian communities or do not have time to get involved.  We don't want our children to completely miss the opportunity.  Parents have been involved in a "enough" amount with Iranians when they lived in Iran:)

Never would I send my children to a genetic camp

From their website:

"Our Mission The mission of Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) is to strengthen the Iranian diaspora community and empower its youth. In particular, Iranian Alliances Across Borders strives to:

  • Raise awareness of the Iranian culture and community;
  • Promote leadership in the Iranian diaspora community, with a specific focus on the younger generation; and
  • Connect Iranians across a variety of borders."
                    I cannot stand anymore talk about "empowerment". I know it's a fashionable idiocy, but the very word "power" sets me into an allergic fit of abhorrence: NO BEING ANYWHERE has ANY RIGHT WHATSOEVER to excercize ANY FORM OF POWER OVER ANOTHER especially by the most pathetic, idiotic, primitive "diagnosis" of accident of birth.    Women's "empowerment baloney drives me up the wall as well.      I don't mind the "connection " bit though. That's cool with me.

The part #2 is awesome! I will recommend it to any minorities! The young people talked about accepting themselves and proud of their heritage! It is awesome!

It has been years that I have this camp in my mind to send my son after a few years.  This is the only solid camp for young Iranians who live in different states.  Am I right?
