On 4 February 1949, the Shah attended an annual ceremony to commemorate the founding of Tehran University. At the ceremony, Fakhr-Arai fired five shots at the Shah at a range of ten feet. Only one of the shots hit the Shah and his cheek was grazed. Fakhr-Arai was instantly shot by nearby officers. After an investigation, it was determined that Fakhr-Arai was a member of the Tudeh Party, which was subsequently banned. However, there is evidence that the would-be assassin was not a Tudeh member but a religious fundamentalist member of Fada'iyan-e Islam >>> wikipedia

Not the only one
by Reality-Bites on Wed Aug 10, 2011 02:15 PM PDTThe second assassination attempt on Shah's life, in 1965, was also carried out by an Islamist (a palace guard).
It's amazing that Shah focused on the Communists/Marxists so much, while dismissing the threat of Islamists, when they (the Islamists) were by far his most dangerous enemies. A mistake that he came to regret eventually.
Having said that, some ex-Soviet agents have claimed that the USSR did try to have Shah killed. So maybe his anti-Communist paranoia wasn't entirely without basis.
Chosstara Solution
by yazdi on Wed Aug 10, 2011 01:57 PM PDTAlright Amir Parviz, I see your point. So right before we move them all to Ghom and build the big wall, we will bury one of IRI nuclear bombs underneath Ghom and have it set off after the first homosexual act occurs in Ghom. What do you think about that?
What if he was killed?
by عموجان on Wed Aug 10, 2011 01:45 PM PDTI even don't want to think how Iran would looked today?..Yemen!
Since we have seen what a great job Mullah have done so far.
Near death experience
by Ali P. on Wed Aug 10, 2011 01:11 PM PDTAsk any theist who miracelously survived an assassination attempt, or a car crash, or a fatal disease,or any shooting of any sort, and they give the credit to God, Jesus, Imam Hossain, or other Saints.

I still
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Aug 10, 2011 01:00 PM PDTthink Ghom is better off making rugs and shohan than Akhoonds. Regarding Amirparviz's solution I don't really care. Italian one appeals to me but then I am sure we can make a "democratic" decision :-)
Yazdi what do you think of renaming Ghom to Chosstara?
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:58 AM PDTIt is not a real word, the reason is I can not use profanity here.
During the French revolution which created a republic, all the clergy and their mercenaries were guilotened by the public. Don't you think Akhoonds are smarter people, when their heads are separated from their bodies?
Does the panel here prefer the french solution or the Italian one, or do you all think we need a unique persian one?
Small Price
by yazdi on Wed Aug 10, 2011 08:47 AM PDTWe have to make some sacrifice to get rid of the Akhoonds. The rugs would be a small price to pay. You can add the Sohan to that list also.
Dear Yazdi
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Aug 10, 2011 08:21 AM PDTNot a bad solution I must agree with you. Just one thing: what about those fine silk rugs? Do we still keep the factories in Ghom or move them somewhere else. Let Ahkoonds worry about toilets and leave rugs alone.
Dear VPK, here is a solution
by yazdi on Wed Aug 10, 2011 08:03 AM PDTMake Ghom the equivilant of Vatican. Stick em all in there and build a huge wall around it. Make Ghom it's own country. Let them sit there and work out the finer points of how to enter the toilet.

Yes Shah was
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Aug 10, 2011 07:29 AM PDTvery superstitious regarding Shia Imam. Not only was it total nonsense it was also an insult to his guards. Who did the real job of saving and protecting him. Thanks a lot your majesty how nice of you!
These guards risk their lives and he gives the credit to an Imam. More proof there is no limit to stupidity in our nation. From Shah to villager all able to be stupid.
While I give Shah credit for attempts at modernization I blame him for this. But I never give up hope. IRI has proved the utter bull Shia really is.
Dear Maryam
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Aug 10, 2011 07:23 AM PDTI am all for banning Akhoonds. But where do we deport them; I do not think anyone wants them! Male bad bikhe rishe sahabesh :-)
didnt he claim that his life was saved by a shia emaam?!!
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Aug 10, 2011 07:19 AM PDTThe most despicable thing about this man was his utter submission and lip service payments to the shia eslam and the despised clergy, at the expense of the secular sections of the iranian society. He of course paid a high price for this. But the real price was and is being paid by the iranian people. Even if the islamist regime is overthrown tomorrow, our country and nation will be suffering from the effects of this 32 years of murder, treason and theft in the name of god, for at least couple of generations to come.
