University drops 13 humanities majors

Will no longer offer political science, sociology, history, philosophy...

Radio Zamaneh: Allameh Tabatabai University in Tehran, a top Iranian university, has eliminated 13 branches of the humanities, leaving only six branches of humanities studies for students to pursue in the coming academic year. Journalism, political science, sociology, history, philosophy, communications, pedagogy, accounting, administration, education administration, pedagogy for special needs, early childhood education and economics have been omitted from the offerings at Allameh Tabatabai University >>>

Your UHJ in Haifa, Israel is likewise against people studying subjects in the social science/humanities, because these subjects offer people the kind of broad spectrum critical thinking that always end up becoming a thorn in the side of totalitarian systems, be they the IRI or the Haifan Bahai organization.

I think they should definitely drop "ethics" if they haven't already :-)

Now to our own USA. They should drop all MBA and Economics specially University of Chicago. All they have managed to generate is idiots who run companies into ground. Professional "financial instrument" aka scam makers. Drop that and USA may get somewhere. Economics in USA has not done much good either with their top "maestro" being Alan Greenspan. The few smart ones like Paul Krugman are sidelined. All you need is a good contact and a total lack of ethics. So maybe we are not that different.

Now seriously we might as well produce engineers and scientists. At least they do something. I will get worried if they were to shut down those schools.

Support government on this one

Studying accounting in a country that there is no accountability is a waste of time. Worse is to study management or economy in a country where all you need to get a top managerial post is your ability to use a gun. Government is right to stop people from wasting their time.
