Iran Defeats Russia

Friendly match in UAE

Reuters - Mohammad Reza Khalatbari scored a last-minute winner then got sent off for celebrating as Iran stunned Russia 1-0 in a scrappy friendly played in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday. Khalatbari sprung the offside trap before evading two Russian defenders and beating goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev with a rising shot from close range. Iran’s victory was watched from a VIP box by former Portugal and Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz who local media were reporting on Wednesday is set to become coach, replacing Afshin Ghotbi who departed to join Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse following Iran’s elimination at last month’s Asian Cup >>>

Is it true?

Carlos Queiroz become the next coach? I really hope so. "They" won't be able to push around a distinguished foreign coach as easily as an Iranian one.

Khalatbari

by Doctor mohandes on

Let's see what we will do with another new Foooreen coach. I think Khalatbari has so much in common with Klose and that should be taken into consideration.

But let me give you an update around the friendly games arena:

ALemanian 1 - Italia 0 33 minute.

ENg 1 - Denmak 1 .

Look at the name of possible coach of Team Melli. He is not even the coach and you are having a field day with his name. See when you have subjects like this, why did you make DM keep writing last night that you were going to write about my non existent date? Sometimes I wonder who is bad influence on whom? you on DM or DM on you?

A Decent Performance by Team Melli

by Faramarz on

Iran played well today and earned the victory over the Russians who brought all their European-based players to Abu Dhabi. Iran played without Nekounam, Shojaei and Ansarifard.

One side note; the top coaching candidate for Iran to replace Afshin Ghotbi is the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz (pronounced Keeresh, seriously!) He was the assistant to Alex Ferguson at Man. U. and the head coach of Portugal in the last World Cup. There were some confusion in the Iranian sports circles about if he would attend the game or not, “Keeresh hast yaa Keeresh nist!” I am happy to report that he was there at the game, taking notes, “Keeresh Bood!”

Welcome to Iran Mr. Queiroz!

Best of luck to you and Team Melli!
