AFP: Two top Iranian directors urged the judiciary to reduce the sentence handed down to their fellow filmmaker Jafar Panahi when speaking at a local film festival, a report said on Saturday. Masoud Kimiai and Puran Derakhshandeh said Panahi deserved a "revision" of his court sentence as he had earned several awards for Iran, the ILNA news agency reported. "I am 70 years old, of which 52 years have been spent in Iranian cinema... I humbly ask the judiciary to revise Jafar Panahi's sentence as he is my friend," Kimiai said at Friday's opening ceremony of the annual Fajr film festival in Tehran >>>

A dignified and touching speech
by reader1 on Sun Feb 06, 2011 09:03 AM PSTThis was a government sponsored event, yet virtually all in the audience applauded Kimiai for seeking clemency for Panahi. Surely this must be a wake-up call for the regime.

درود بر مسعود کیمیایی. ای کاش که محمد رسول اوف هم رفیقش بود که یادی هم از او میکرد.
Decent move
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Feb 06, 2011 08:48 AM PSTIt's the least he could do for Panahi, in a fascist state. Damesh garm.
He should have banned this shabolic festival....

: The very first question here is
? What are you doing here Mr Kimiayee
Why cannot you and people like you just ban these kind of shambolic festivals like the others and get real respect from the nation rather than comming here and begging for mercy from this barbaric rejim
Panahi could do this himself as you know Mr Kimiyaee but has refused to bow down and has the guts to stick to his words
There is a vey BIG question on you and the universaly recognised Iranian directors like Kayarostami and Mehrjooyee for not doing enough to save your colleagues
. Freedom is not granted , you have to fight for it
Gheysar is still alive
by Benyamin on Sun Feb 06, 2011 04:36 AM PSTSometimes I wonder if Gheysar was based on "Masood Kimyaee" personality. But it pains me to see him asking from "jaladan e iran" to free his friend.
As if nothing has changed and he is still 18 years old or everything has changed, everyone is growing and as they grow they become as Mr. Kimyaee put it "forootan" exept Iranian governmet which still acting irrisponssible and "khaam".
I support Kimyaee and Panaahi 100 percent for what they do for Iran now and for whatever they have done in the past.
People of Iran are the boss
