He knows when this regime falls, there is no place on earth safe for him, his family and the few thousand 'revolutionaries' who brought this "regime of death" to our country.  I could care less if he is on the side of democracy or the other muderors Karooubi/Mousavi.  All are gulity, all WILL be brought to justice and this cult of Islam will be sidelined.  the wave has started and his days are numbered.

JJJ just a few days ago when Mousavi and Karoubi announced they've filed for a protest rally you criticized their move and called them "lost opportunities".

What gives?  Not that there is anything wrong with making changes to your views, it just seemed to me that you thought Mousavi and Karoubi are only good to be ridiculed.

While the IRI and Basiji's are likely to follow orders and crush unarmed peaceful protestors while betraying their own Constitution as per usual, I just don't see a large turn out for Greens.

A year has passed and most Iranians have an idea what the Green movement is now. Who wants to die to support US funded puppets?

USA wants islam in government and most people just don't support that.  USA wants mullahs it can control.  Iranians mostly don't want mullahs.  Green movement can not lead to regime change, so what's the difference.

Why is he taking side with the Regim

The main reason he is not backing the Green Movement is $$$$... His billions of dollars investment in Iran would disappear over night if he loses the power ... which is also in serious danger. He's definitely in the wrong path. It is only matter of time before he is cut off from the minor authority he is now possesing, and losing it all, and that's not just his $$$.

He is betting on the wrong hand

I agree with J.J, that Rafsenjani hoping that he would be the Velayete Faghih (supreme leader) after Khameni. But he is wrong. So far he can't even do the Friday prayers anymore and soon he will probably be loosing his other titles too. So, he is obviousely betting on the wrong side and he will regret all this soon but then it will be too late for him. Why in the hell do these people think they live forever and rather than siding with justice and with people, they seek worldly titles and positions. Maybe this is God's curse on them!.

he is old guard, you are expecting too much from him.

he's trying to stress that he's a moderate and not calling the revolution the 'islamic revolution.'  he is, point blank, admitting that the revolution consisted of many groups.  instead of saying everyone was islamic and wanted islam (as khameini et al say), he only says majority were islamic.  and it's true, he doesn't say what happened to other groups who were fundamental in making the revoution successful: dead, perishing in jail, or exiled.

Well my suggestion is this:

Don't rough them and don't kill them. Just put some tranquilizers and sedatives in their food and drink. This way they will go back to sleep!

Rafsanjani, as expected, backs the regime and makes no mention of 25 Bahman rally called by Mousavi and Karroubi. He's had numerous chances to break away and side with the people, but his eyes are set on taking power after Khamenei and does not want to rock the boat, even when its sinking.
