Radio Zamaneh: Ayatollah Dastgheib, a senior member of the Iranian clergy and representative of Fars province in the Assembly of Experts, is calling for the Iranian opposition leaders to be released from house arrest. Kaleme website reports that in an open letter, Ayatollah Dastgheib has described the treatment of MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi as contrary to constitutional and Islamic law. The two opposition leaders have been under house arrest since they issued a rally call for people to march in solidarity with the recent Arab uprisings on February 14. Mousavi and Karroubi, along with their wives, have been completely cut off from any contact with the outside world, and their children have expressed grave concern about the well-being of their parents >>>
Radio Zamaneh: Mohammad Khatami former Iranian president spoke out today against the house arrest of opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, and condemned the “destructive measures” taken against them. “Why should someone such as Mr. Mousavi and Mr. Karroubi with their stellar background in the Revolution and the Islamic Republic and complete faith in the substance of the regime and the Revolution be under house arrest and subjected to such restrictions?” Khatami said in a meeting with a group of academics and members of the clergy. The former president went on to say: ‘If all the senior officials that have enjoyed the approval of the Imam (Khomeini), the people and the leadership, are now to be regarded as corrupt, deviant and anti-Revolutionaries, would not the people of the world be right to wonder if the outcome of the Revolution is merely corruption and deviance?” >>>

here is what my friend says
by Joe L. on Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:41 AM PSTmy good friend told me that the price of these guys are too high to let them roam around. probably many terrorists like Mujahedin organization would love to kill these guys and blame the government. who is there to believe that government didnt kill them? come on dudes, you cant be too naive not to think of all this?! i bet right now there are bunch of paid agents who are dying to get a chance to kill them so they can advertise against the system. probably same organizations or groups who has shot and killed some demonstrators from the rooftops!!! think about it. if you think that everything you hear is right then you are brainwashed. $hit is going on in every corner!!! its called politics. one thing is for sure: regime wants these guys alive so dont ever buy it if they are shot!!! and i think they are somewhere to be monitored closely but mostly b/c the government is afraid someone would kill these two.

by Doctor mohandes on Sun Feb 27, 2011 03:21 PM PSTHoping for that to happen will be tantamount to hoping that G.W would go to afghanistan and joins the talibans and they all have a BBq texas style!
heck , I even think the odds are more in favor for it to happen than the hypothetical situation that you described.
Why O why
by Doctor mohandes on Sun Feb 27, 2011 03:18 PM PSTDo people invest so much hope and energy and optimism in a circus called "opposition movemnet" and it's phony so-called leaders.
It is a total waste of time to go around and analyze and re-analyze their contribution to anything.
I May Trust These Guys

Here Goes The Real Truth!
by Demo on Sun Feb 27, 2011 01:30 PM PSTThe "Green" is a "dope" cultivated by the regime itself to "dupe" the young by a "mirage" of "hope" for a "change" in the "horizon." A perfect "dragger" plan set up by the "grey haired khavas" of the regime to entertain the "naggers" & to further "empower" the regime! Then let's dream on with Green!

by David ET on Sun Feb 27, 2011 12:37 PM PSTThis has to be celebrated that EVENTUALLY those who still believed in Khatami, rafsanjani et al may be coming to their senses. Otherwise he and like were never to be trusted nor much to be expected from.
These are difficult days but also , in such days the real truth comes out at last.
Too little...
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Feb 27, 2011 12:26 PM PSTIt's sad that Sanei and Dastgheib can only show so little guts. And Khatami... such a hopeless case.
So much has happened in the past two years and these guys are still dragging their feet. Despite knowing that the Islamic Republic has lost its legitimacy and that the people have had it with this religious dictatorship, these reformist mollas still don't get it. They won't come out and stand up to Khamenei. This regime is determined to silence them and their allies and followers and yet they aren't willing to put up a fight.
