And yea, he is "REAL" popular back in "MEEHAN"! But so is paris Hilton "REAL" popular in this "meehan" !

My goodness, one thing we Iranians are great at is the fine art of exageration and mass hysteria! Next thing he'll be elevated to "King of comedy" and people will be writing essays about him and start a "ghash" by mere mention of his name!

What's wrong with just admitting that he is a good clown and making good money out of it by knowing which side f his bread is buttered?

Of course he did, JJ. What do you mean he didn't make program for the IRI? For years he sangs in all kind of Iranian programs, since the first days of the revolution. You are just talking about the last years of his activities, but seem to forget that IRI is there since 32 years now. Shajarin like all the other good artists was working within the IRI frame. Of course he is not an actor or director, so this makes all the difference. But the worse thing we can do, is to criticize a true honarmand, for having make money from his own effort. Did he spy for the IRI? No!

Modiri is doing just perfect in this show. He is mocking the people who are enjoying the freedom of being in the West, with the financial support of the rich people, making a fool of themselves batting chest for a country to which they don't even belong anymore.

The two videos below show how ridicule are those guys at  the TV screens, in front of the brave people who are inside of the country dealing with the real problems!

Jaleho, I've seen Modiri's work. He has often criticized the status quo in the same way filmmakers and writers inside Iran always have.

But to target those abroad in his own line of business... well it's throwing stones in a glasshouse.

Funny? Yes. Very funny. But he shouldn't complain if he too comes under attack too.

I find Mehran Modiri to be one of the most talented and charming Iranians I have ever seen (on TV) in my life, He is hugely talented in different areas such as film making , acting, comdey and he is not bad on the eyes either.

largest subject of fun is the state and situation inside Iran! No one can stop him. People sit in Norooz for him to come out with series making fun of every institution inside Iran!

This is the first time I see him making fun of these losers in American tv, because these losers ARE THE SUBJECT of ridicule by Iranians these days! Talk to them to see all the jokes going around about Sazegara, Bahram Moshiri, Atabaki, Homayoon....most of them I have not ever heard of. I only have seen the Atabaki clip which was provided down here (for the first time I saw it during election time on IC as well), and Sazegara's clip, again here on IC only. But, listen to Iranians watching satellite making fun of them all the time :-)

More power to Modiri! I doubt there is any Iranian who has been awake during the past twenty years who does not know him or appreciate his work.

This man has done a great service to iranians living inside Iran for 20 years, he has brought mirth and laughter to an otherwise somber country.

Shajarian?

Souri, Shajarian has not made any money from making programs for the Islamic Republic, he has asked that his songs not be aired by the IRIB and he has done interviews criticizing the regime. More importantly, he has not made a song attacking Googoosh, Dariush or any other singer abroad.

Modiri has made his fortune directly from the Islamic Republic's broadcasting organization. Many artists have and do today as well. But if they start poking fun at those who are abroad making peanuts for a living, then they open themselves to questions about their own sources of income.

I don't watch TV; alright? I know plenty about Iran just don't like TV. Do I have to in order to be a "Real Iranian"? I don't know much about American TV either. There is more to life than the tube.

I would hope there is a vibrant culture that does not depend on TV. Honestly when I heard Paris Hilton I thought is was a hotel. Until some American guy explained it. This is the way I am and proud of it.

He is making money?

So what?  Shajarian too, makes lots of money. Many people are making good money in Iran today.

He is making good money, because people love to watch his shows. He is making money because he is good!
Even in the West, many people buy their DVD's and are the real fans.

So according to you, anybody who can make money in Iran, is an IRI agent? People who accuse him and his group, of being the pro-regime just because they are making good money, are just the one dimensional looser. Sorry!

To be Clear

I do not hate Modiri; just don't know much about him. I do not watch grown up TV Persian or American. I watch PBS with my kids. I do watch some movies mostly kids. Now I did find some of his stuff on youtube.

I will be watching and passing on my verdict. Please remain tuned.

If you had any idea of what goes inside your "mihan" and you were not so disconnected with it, you would have known that Iranians can't wait for Modiri's next program!  

Don't ever confuse Iranian MILLIONS, with a few petty fringe elements here who are STILL mad that their maman o papa prepared them  for THAT job when they would go back from Farang to Iran under Shah. They still can not realize that THIRTY years has passed and their sick dream is dead and Iran now belongs to the VIBRANTIranians who live there.

And, the resourceful respectable Iranians here never stopped their lives for thirty years to WHINE and complain and day dream. They would have done great inside Iran with hard work and good set of values, and they are doing great here with the same tools.

I can't believe the anti-Modiri comments. Here is a guy who's been entertaining and bringing laughter to millions of Iranians. He brings joy to people who don't have much to be happy about. What he is doing is noble, even if it's done within the framework of the Islamic Republic . This is the prefect example of ends justifying the means. If I could bring laughter and happiness to millions of Iranians day in and day out at a cost of a photo op with Khamanei, I would do it.
I'm not a fan of the Islamic Republic, but you people need to get your priorities straight.

By whom? There are millions of Iranians. Many do not even know who this guy is. Yes maybe some love him; others hate him. Most like me never heard of him or could care less.

By the way a large number of most accomplished Iranians are in Californian. Remember about 10% of Iranian population lives outside Iran. This is not some small number it is HUGE. To dismiss them shows a total lack of understanding. If 10% of Iranians are not "real" then what is? A bunch of Hizbollah terrorists? Most of whom have more loyalty to Palestine and Lebanon than Iran. 

Iranians think lots of things. Again the most educated and accomplished live in the West. Why: because there is a non stop stream of best of Iran leaving. IR does not promote either accomplishment or education. All it promotes is terrorism. And it will end just like that. The terrorists running Iran will get what they got coming. Then run off to Lebanon where Israel will be waiting for them. That is why they are piling the money by billions in trucks and shipping it out.

But the money won't do them any good. I hear gold does not buy much in hell. That is where these "Real" Iranians aka IR Mollah and Akhoonds are heading.

I think he is making fun of the genral California type expat who in the past thirty years have repeated the same tasteless jokes, and lived in laughable putrid unreal dreams about their "vatan", their boron-marzi, daroon-marzi idiotic lexicon, arrogant self-righeous-know-it-all-dahan daridegi,  while they have NO CLUE about REAL Iran and Iranians anymore!!

Making fun of Pahlavi does not take courage in Iran. It is just one more way to kiss up to the Mollah. One hair of Pahlavi is worth all the Mollah put together. It is like comparing gold to s***.
