Wrong!
by HHH on Wed Jun 01, 2011 04:18 PM PDT1. Only 470,000 filled the census forms, for every 1 who did, 8 didn't which means the actual population is around 3,500,000.
2. Half of those who actually filled the forms listed themselves as "White" or "Anglo" not as Iranians.
There are more than 470,000 Iranians in South-California alone. About 1.2 million in California, 800,000 in the East coast and another 1 million the rest of America.
If you want the real data tell Iranians you'll get $100 or a voucher for free Chelo-Kabob per resident then look how many will sign up.

by pedro on Tue May 17, 2011 05:30 AM PDTOh well, thank you Maryam. Yes, every night. I love you too for praying to Ahoura Mazda and, for your awesome posts.
I am Persia. I pray to Ahoura Mazda.
Sorry for letting you down, I never bothered with the census
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Mon May 16, 2011 05:20 PM PDTsince I am in between states, live in 2 places I never filled it out.
Many iranians just don't participate and after the US govt put away all the japanese americans in internment camps I did not trust them with my info and don't blame them either.
It's correct but...
by Daadaash on Mon May 16, 2011 04:15 PM PDTThat's just in Los Angeles! :)
Your argument is not quite correct!
by aliash on Mon May 16, 2011 03:44 PM PDTDear Dr. Holakouee,
I just saw your very interesting discussion, which was posted on
Iranian.com, regarding the current Iranian-American population as it was
measured on the 2010 US census. Your point of approaching the data
scientifically is very well taken! However it is important to note the
current data on the Iranian-American population in the US is
inaccurate! The standard error published by US government does not reflect the
info on various national ethnicitys such as Iranian Americans or Italian
Americans. The census is not very accurate due to the following
reasons,
people wanted they could enter that manually! As a result many if not
most people did not enter their ethnicity. They typically identified
themselves as White (or in some rare cases as Asian)!
While I agree the numbers we hear claiming that there are millions of us
here is exaggerated, the 2010 US census information is inaccurate and
grossly underestimates the number of Iranian-Americans.
According to census...
by Ali P. on Mon May 16, 2011 12:45 PM PDTAre you considered Iranian, if:
a) your father is Iranian-American? Is Andre` Aghassi Iranian?
b) your mother is Iranian?
c) you were born in Iran, but you have been here since you were two, and you consider yourself American?
There was some confusion about our identity in the last census. Many wanted American citizens of Iranian origin, identify themselves as "Iranian-American', by writing the term in 'other'cathegory. Some did, some didn't. I guess they just counted the ones who did, and this is how they came up with this number.
I love you Pedro for saying
by Maryam Hojjat on Mon May 16, 2011 12:16 PM PDTI an persian. I pray to Ahoura Mazda. Me too.
Ridiculous,
by pedro on Mon May 16, 2011 11:03 AM PDT470,000 is a fraction of how many Iranians live in US. Common knowledge is about 5 million.

Inaccurate
by afshin on Mon May 16, 2011 09:56 AM PDTI would say the census numbers are inaccurate, because it relies heavily on participation from those to be counted. Having said that, I would opine that the best way to find out how many Iranians are living in the US would actually be to find out from the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, D.C. They issue passports and other documents for Iranians who are legal residents/citizen of the United States and I can tell you based on the numbers they deal with, the census number is grossly off.
