(2011). He is Howard C. Baskerville Professor in the History of Iran and the Persianate World and the Associate Director of the Dr. Samuel M. Jordan Center for Persian Study & Culture at the University of California, Irvine. This is his lecture at UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies:

According to Mr Daryaee,  pre Islamic Iranian history (here, specifically the Sassanid era) was read in the seventies in Iran through either a Soviet interpretation or an Islamist one.   That is very interesting considering the actual events on the ground (namely, revolution 1979).
