AFP: Iran on Wednesday carried out two hangings, including the public execution of a teenage boy convicted of killing an athlete billed as "Iran's strongest man," local media reported. Despite calls by human rights group Amnesty International for an 11th-hour stay of the 17-year-old's execution, Alireza Molla-Soltani was sent to the gallows at the scene of the crime in the city of Karaj, west of the capital >>>

Sheila K. response

I have partly responded by listing how serious the (accidental) killing was. In some places, he might have been brutally beaten to death by a mob (there are videos on YouTube showing where that has actually happened)! So hanging is, at least, a much more merciful way to go (certainly better than being brutally beaten to death). As for protests, I have heard that the people of Iran are in fear of their government, because it had been so terribly brutal, so they are probably not going to show any real feelings, mixed or otherwise, in public. In private, they might have much to say.
Alireza Molla-Soltani

The really bad thing here is the guy he killed - accidentally in the fight - was a huge national hero in Iran. If only he had not been carrying a knife, or had just run away from the fight. This whole thing should not have happened. Two guys dead, when there should have been no guys dead. I pray that Allah will help and comfort both of them in Paradise.
So Outrageous

For best hanging of year, Oscar goes to?

These enablers of the barbaric regime really like the sanitized version of the monster that they feed and support. Have you ever seen the photo of Heinrich Himmler walking through a concentration camp holding a handkerchief to his face--so that he can't smell the stench? These keyboard warriors of the Islamic Republic will probably do the same thing walking through Khavaran and Evin or other places in Iran where people are hanging from cranes.

by Simorgh5555 on Thu Sep 22, 2011 07:31 AM PDTAccording to Molla Soltani's version of events he was pounced and beaten by Ruhollah Dadasbi and there is evidence that the accused was injured which partially corroborates his side of the story. Whether he stabbed Dadashi at the spur of the moment or out of pure revenge is not clear. However, the sleed at which the execution took place and the bias towards Dadashi stinks to high heaven of corruption. The legal process and execution displayed all the elements of trial by mob and a government which neither ubderstands human compassion or conforms to the standard of international justice.

by hamsade ghadimi on Thu Sep 22, 2011 06:33 AM PDTthe people watching the execution have been desensitized to the regime's brutality by decades of public executions, and justification by leaders of the government in brutally repressing any dissent.
ms. sheila k, your comment seems very naive. the lawyer for ms. ashtiani who was to be stoned to death escaped iran with his family for fear of his own life. the lawyer! extrapolate from there.

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Wed Sep 21, 2011 11:18 PM PDTpeople in the west yes, in Iran no. Sorry not true.
In Iran you don't even get the right to be representd by a lawyer. These ridiculous exections are unlawful, but the killing machine of the IRI has to keep the people in terror. People did not protest because they are facing worse on a daily basis and have no energy left to protest and get beaten.
did people protest against this execution in Iran?
by Sheila K on Wed Sep 21, 2011 11:04 PM PDTI have not heard nor seen any evidence of Iranian people in Iran protesting against the execution of a teenage boy. There may have been few lawyers or humanitarian organizations but not in masses. That signifies people's lack of compassion or their acceptance of the justice system. The executors or the judicial system is made up of the people.
