ICHRI: In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, lawyer to death row inmate Shirkoo Moarefi, currently held inside Saghez Central Prison on charges of "moharebeh (enmity with God)," confirmed that his client was on a hunger strike on 4 April to protest his ambiguous status in prison. Saeed Sheikhi told the Campaign that his client's execution may be carried out at any moment. "The confirmation of his sentence was against clear legal principles and it is final and since it was issued last year, none of my objections have been addressed," Sheikhi told the Campaign.
Shirkoo Moarefi, a Kurdish political prisoner, was arrested on 30 September 2008 on the Iran-Iraq border, while he was attempting to return to Iran from Iraqi Kurdistan. He was sentenced to death on charges of "moharebeh (enmity with God)" and "acting against national security), and the Supreme Court has confirmed his sentence. Moarefi has repeatedly embarked on hunger strikes to protest his conditions and his sentence.

"My client had a court-appointed lawyer in his lower-court trial in Saghez where his death sentence was issued. After that I accepted to represent him at appeals level. Unfortunately, Branch Four of Saghez Appeals Court rejected our appeal and upheld the death sentence issued by the lower court. I than requested a re-trial and the case was sent to the Supreme Court where it was confirmed again. Using Article 18, we then asked the Head of the Judiciary and the General Prosecutor to review the sentence. Fortunately, Head of the Judiciary recognized the death sentence against the Sharia law and ordered a retrial," explained Saeed Sheikhi about his client's death sentence.
"According to legal principles, a retrial means that the case will have to be sent to a court that is lateral to the court that issued the initial ruling, but, unfortunately, they forwarded the case to a court that was lateral to the Appeals Court. The Supreme court then entered the judicial review against all legal principles and confirmed the ruling again. The Supreme Court should have never been involved in this case. The Supreme Court can only review cases in two instances, when a ruling is issued in an appeals court and the Supreme Court is asked for assistance, or when when a case is referred to them under extraordinary circumstances, none of which were valid in Shirkoo's case," Sheikhi told the Campaign.
"After the sentence was confirmed again, I objected again to the Prosecutor General, Head of the Judiciary, and the Prosecutor at the Saghez Revolutionary Court, but my objections remain unaddressed," said Shirkoo Moarefi's lawyer.

Last night I was in an iranian restaurant in kensington
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Thu Apr 26, 2012 11:11 PM PDTWith some young students and they were saying things I have never heard anywhere and some iranian shop owner next door that goes back and forth to iran also said that it was true. I am very skeptical about it, but I know these people all go to and from iran on a regular basis.
things I heard that surprised me, honestly I can't believe and doubt but here it is: basiji taking peoples dogs from them and some cases of the basiji's shooting the dogs in public in front of many people to get the message across no dogs in public anymore. Public insulting anything and anyone to do with the regime with each other and across all groups even religious groups and this despite being worried about informants. Political Fighting over issue of how to handle the opposition within the regime and how to keep them for the system is causing deep divisions. Some want to crush all opposition and pursue them far more, others want to bring them back in now, in order to prevent the regime being publicly isolated and possibly collapsing. Each group within the system is physically harming others who disagree on how to handle this issue, both sides for and against are now fighting each other using the police and various judges to imprison opponents allies, so even among the conservatives that stole the election there are deep disagreements and an ever expanding list of real grievances.

I see lots of Iranians in their early 20's in london
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Thu Apr 26, 2012 07:24 PM PDTthey have come to go to university and their families are from various places in Iran. From what I heard tonight the IRI is struggling having lost their war and change is only a matter of time, maybe it could cause a change for the worse, my wish is it be for the better.
Ali Gheda and his co-criminals are in more trouble than they know, their constituency is not wanted and shrinking and they are going through a murderous battle against each other that has no end in sight for now. They are getting covert technological assistance from the neo-colonial powers that are keeping them in power, but it will be futile in the end and soon the west will realize this too and the IRI will have to answer to all iranians, not for allegations but for over 30 years of crimes during which time they have also caused Iran to Decline Massively.
Mullahs have caused most Iranians within Iran to search for the heart and soul of Iran and this is great for lending legitimacy and grass roots support for the ideals I believe in,
those that have reached for the soul of Iran and her culture, are finding the good and true spirit
of Iran, and they know exactly what Iran is about and what it's alternative
is.

Iranians from all walks of life have been standing against this tyranny and demanding their basic human rights. They need our support in their struggle and for a sustain campaign for their immediate and unconditional freedom.
Iran's future must be determined by Iranians and Iranians only if the change they are seeking is going to be sustainable and FOR the people of Iran. Mass starvation, as it is being suggested, will not help these brave bunch.
My hats off to each and every one of these brave bunch

Islamist Rapists
by Fred on Thu Apr 26, 2012 07:35 AM PDTThe only way to stop all these anti-Iranian human rights violations by the Islamist Rapists is to overthrow all of them, "reformist" and all.
Airtight sanctions including air/naval inspection is a must.
