RAHANA: Hamed Rouhinejad, 24, was a philosophy student at Shahid Beheshti University who was arrested on 3 May 2009 on ambiguous charges. In June 2009, several weeks after his arrest and detention, he was charged with "inciting riots" during the June 2009 post-election protests.
During the public group trial of the post-election protesters, Rouhinejad was forced to make fake confessions against himself, even though he had been in prison at the time of elections. The court found him guilty of "inciting riots" and "moharebeh (enmity with God)," and sentenced him to death. An appeals court later reduced his sentence to ten years in prison.
Hamed Rouhinejad suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and has developed major loss of vision among other disabilities. He has not been allowed furlough during his detention.
