RAHANA: Shabnam Madadzadeh, 24, was the Deputy Chair of the Tehran Council of Tahkim Vahdat Student Organization, which is a political union of university students across the country. In May of 2008 students at Tarbiat Moallem University protested for 12 days and went on hunger strike due to welfare and union issues. She was the main organizer of these protests, resulting in her expulsion, arrest, and imprisonment.
Madadzadeh was arrested on February 19, 2009 along with her brother Farzad Madadzadeh.
Madadzadeh was transferred to Evin’s ward 209 after her arrest where she spent three months in solitary confinement. She was put under severe mental and physical pressures. After spending seven months in ward 209, she was transferred to the Methadone ward of Evin prison, which is for drug offenders. After this she was transferred to the general ward. In April 2009, Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court issued an agreement to release Shabnam and her brother with bail. But judge Hassan Dahnavi personally blocked the order, stating that he needed to “discipline” Madadzadeh.
Madadzadeh's trial was postponed 4 times. During her arrest, Shabnam was put under severe psychological and physical torture, with accusations of being connected to the “Mojahedin-e Khalgh” organization. On February 9, 2010, Shabnam and her brother were convicted of acting against national security and “moharebeh” at branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court under Judge Moghiseh. They were sentenced to 5 years exile in Rajai Shahr prison located in the city of Karaj, close to Tehran. On June 2, 2010, her 5 year sentence was upheld in the appeals court despite the fact that she did not have an attorney. Mohammad Oolyayifard, who was the attorney for both Shabnam and her brother, Farzad Madadzadeh, had also been arrested and sentenced to one year in prison.
On August 2, 2010, this student activist who had been sentenced to imprisonment and exile, was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in the city of Karaj. Shabnam Madadzadeh suffers from poor health and has not been allowed furlough during her detention.

by Bavafa on Fri Jan 20, 2012 01:08 PM PSTIranian students, women in particular have been showing an extraordinary bravery in standing against this dictatorship and tyranny. They are some of the bravest and brightest Iran has seen and they deserve every one’s support for their immediate and unconditional freedom. My salute to each and every one of these brave bunch, in particular the Iranian Shir-zan.

Public awareness
by Joubin on Fri Jan 20, 2012 11:49 AM PSTRoozbeh Gilani,
I could not agree more.
We need to raise public awareness outside of Iran. A matter of utmost importance.
It is clearly good, but not sufficient, to limit this to IC. We need a dedicated site. Simple UI, just a calendar that links to a specific individual. Until we have that up and running, it would be quite helpful if the sympathetic readers put these out daily in their social networks. (Is there a #hashtag for this? if not, I suggest #IRI_dungeon.)
We need to overpower the deflecting and divisive disinformation noise emanating from the various propaganda organs about Hormuz, Deviant Ones, The Defiant One, the moderate Shepesh, etc.

Think Clearly, Speak Straight, and Act Decisively. Only then will you be an Iranian.

by Roozbeh_Gilani on Fri Jan 20, 2012 10:47 AM PSTIs worth more than millions of the cowardly "women" who hiding behind the anonymity of a false internet user ID, 24/7, lend their support to the fascistic islamist regime of Iran, in return for an easy life in the west, courtesy of the fascist regime.
Looking forward to the day, when this brave compatriot of mine and tens of thousands of other political prisoners of this fascist entity, this tool of imperialism in our beloevd land, are freed by the mighty hands of our people, Iranian people
