Kobra Banazadeh Amirkhizi: Prisoner of the day

Arrested "in connection with Mojahedin"

RAHANA: Kobra Banazadeh Amirkhizi is a 56-year-old citizen who was arrested along with 18 other individuals in January 2008 at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport when they intended to travel to Iraq. Security forces then transferred Banazadeh and the others to the Intelligence Ministry's Ward 209 at Evin Prison. The reason for the arrests was that the group were heading to Camp Ashraf in Iraq to visit with their children. Kobra Banazadeh has two sons in Camp Ashraf. Two of her brothers, Hamid and Asghar Banazadeh previously also served prison terms for visiting with their children at Camp Ashraf.

On 11 May 2009, Branch 28 of Tehran Revolutionary Court under Judge Moghisseh sentenced Kobra Banazadeh Amirkhizi to five years in prison in exile inside Rajaee Shahr Prison on charges of cooperation with the Mojahedin-e Khalgh Organization. In September 2009, a Tehran Province Appeals Court upheld Banazadeh's sentence.

During her detention, Kobra Banazadeh has been subjected to severe physical pressure, including beatings that led to her loss of vision as a result of eye hemorrhaging. She received eye surgery in November 2011, but despite her family's repeated requests, Banazadeh has not been granted any furlough since her arrest.

Dear Reality-Bites: Good question and I argue not enough…

by Bavafa on

But perhaps more than any other organization that I am aware of and I would like to see if there is any other organization that has put more effort in that front than NIAC has.

Here are some links to the related subject but I would not hold my breath for the NIACiers to acknowledge this never mind praising it.

Just imagine if you will...

by Siamak Asadian on

if only one of these "community based" Iranian groups in the US or CANADA; NIAC, AIPPA, ... would seriuosly put human rights violations of IR, on their daily agenda, and were committed to such a policy for the long run, and putting all their resources for promoting the cause of human rights in Iran, instead of promoting the latest book of the beloved leader!

Alas, this will never happen.

Reality-Bites

Just out of interest,....

by Reality-Bites on

since there is much discussion about them elsewhere on IC these days, have NAIC ever had a campaign in the US to highlight the plight of the prisoners under the IR?

I would hazard a guess there are many Iranian-Americans who might have relatives and friends imprisoned in Iran.

We have seen journalist, poets, writers, students, laborers, teachers, and many other walks of life being put behind bars and now we see plain and ordinary mothers behind bars simply for wanting to see their kids.

These shameful acts by IRI will go down in history as one of the darkest period of modern Iran.  These brave mothers, daughters, sons and brothers need our support for a sustain campaign for their immediate and unconditional freedom.

My hats off to each and every one of these braves souls.

Azadeh Azad

IRI is disgusting!

by Azadeh Azad on

So, now mothers are not allowed to love their children? They get beaten up to the point of losing their eyes for wanting to simply meet with their children?

Sending the protest letter below is the least we can do.

We shall overcome,

Azadeh

Arrested, jailed, tortured by the Islamist regime, for what?

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

For being a mother to someone who happened to be a member of Mojahedeen Khalgh!

Looking forward to the certain day, after the overthrowing of the Fascist islamist regime by Iranian people, When brave Kobra and all Iranian mothers, can live in peace and liberty with their children, regardless of their or their children's political affiliations.

Sample Protest letter:

Dear  virtual family, please take a moment to send this protest letter or use your own version.

Please keep in mind that for us, in our priviliged position: free and outside of Iran and IR's jails, and with acess to internet, it's only a few moments work, but for our magificent,  most courageous political prisoners  back home, in this cold winter, freezing to sickness and worse inside jails of Islamic Republic it would make a big difference. Many thanks in advance. And have a great weekend!
