BBC: Iranians have been complaining that Google Maps now has no name on the body of water they call the Persian Gulf and is also known as the Arabian Gulf. The issue has stirred controversy in recent years between Iranians and Arabs, who each say their name is the only one that should be used. A Google representative told the BBC it did not name every place in the world. He said the company also did not want to take any political stance in response to the angry Iranian reaction. He was unable to provide an example of a similar case of a missing landmark >>>

Monopolizing Information
by iraj khan on Sat May 05, 2012 10:15 AM PDTin the Age of Information,
that's what Google has been doing.
Two observations:
1. Google's News Page and Iran
Question: Why the news about Iran is headlined by rightwing Israeli newspapers such as Jerusalem Post or Fox News most of the times?
2. Google's founder Sergey Brin is a Russian Jew who makes frequent trips to Israel, he also attends Israel's Independence Day etc.
Question: What does Sergey Brin and Israel gain from ignoring the name 'Persian Gulf'?
More research is needed.
I'm just saying,
Iraj

In the first 35 seconds, you get the answer.
Khalkhali was smarter than Google
by عموجان on Sat May 05, 2012 09:07 AM PDTHe called it Khalige Islami
Now Google has to wait to name it till after the winner is cleared in up coming war between Muslims, Khalige Sunni or Khalige Shia.
We made a revelation to change the name of Iran to Islamic Republic why Google coudn’t change it to what ever name they want.
Don't chase your tail

Dear Faramarz and Oon Yaroo
by Rastin on Sat May 05, 2012 08:09 AM PDTOne thing is the obvious incompetence of the IR, which by far the majority agree on. No doubt about that. However Iran is not IR, and IR is not Iran, but I admit that most likely people dont think in these terms.
Another thing is Google itself. As the article mentions, a representative said that the company did not want to take any political stance. As I so truthfully read by a commenter, Google Earth is an educational tool. So what is meant by "political stance" in this context? Is using the UN-approved Persian Gulf "taking a political stance"?

Price of belligerence
by Anonymous Observer on Sat May 05, 2012 08:03 AM PDT33 years of Marg Bar [the whole world], attacks on embassies and support of terrorism around the world gets you this.
Now keep blaming the Jews for everything...
They will even take your Tomban from you and you can't do
by Oon Yaroo on Sat May 05, 2012 07:30 AM PDTanything about it for so long as:
If Iranians solve the 1st problem, the rest will be a lot easier to solve.
Now, you can go file and sing millions of petitions and protest all over the place and all that energy and hard work will end up going no where unless you address the #1 problem first!
Just a Symptom of a Larger Problem
by Faramarz on Sat May 05, 2012 07:19 AM PDTFirst the hostage taking and tarnishing the good name of Iranians as the most hospitable people on the face of the earth, then the war, devastations, torture and mass killings, followed by economic mismanagement, thievery, hostility to Iran’s neighbors, giving away our natural resources and Caspian Sea rights and now this.
A weak and incompetent theocracy that has done so much damage to Iran in the name of promoting Islam.

by Rastin on Sat May 05, 2012 07:02 AM PDTMy opinion is very clearly expressed by this commenter: //productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/9J9XpMGdI8Y/discussion
"Given the fact that Google Earth is designed as a learning tool, its accuracy is of the utmost importance. We reiterate and reaffirm our position that the term "Ara*ian Gulf" is not only incorrect due to its past usage as a synonym for the Red Sea, but that its use will be perceived as reflective of your alignment with revisionist elements intent upon using the renaming of the Persian Gulf as a divisive political tool."

Removing the name is a political statement
by choghok on Sat May 05, 2012 06:52 AM PDTSince the historical name since herodotos time has been Persian Gulf then removing that name is a political statement from Google side and there are probably millions if not billions of dollars behind the removal
Price of poor politics
by divaneh on Sat May 05, 2012 06:36 AM PDTThis is the price of poor politics and poor foreign relations by a weak country run by illiterates fascists who think they are a match for big powers of the world. This is the least and we will pay a lot more for the dear Islam and the ruling IRI.
Google! who the ... is Google...
by Benyamin on Sat May 05, 2012 05:44 AM PDTI blame everything squarely on two factors!
1- is the Brittish and their stupid lord which in the conflict with Dr. Mosaddegh suggested the distorted, un-original and made up term arabian gulf!!!!!!
2- the constant conflict between the IRI or Akhunds and their animosity with a Iranian culture which in trun was the root cause many disadvantage and misleadingness. Because of this regime(IRI) many people educated or rich or bright in any field left Iran and that alone is one the reasons Iran is such a weak country or anyone with great ideas or management skills were either killed or chased til they actually left the country so the result is that not only the ancient name of Iran is disputed by a crappy company that could go under any minute but also the crappy MADE UP countries of the SOUTH PERSIAN GULF are now claiming Iranian lands!!!!!
I say good job to the Brittis for ... up once again with our country and great job by the IRI stupid rulers and great job by the Idiots in the south PERSIAN GULF that have no idea how much and how many of them are going to die over made up story by a british lord!!!!!
