San Miguel de Allende is a historic town in the state of Guanajuato, in central Mexico. The town was founded in 1542 by the Spanish and has yet preserved its historic sites and colonial architecture, that combined with the sunny location and the mild Mexican climate, has created a combination of a town out of a fairy tale. It has become an attractive tourist destination for wealthy Mexico City residents, as well as a large American and Canadian expatriate community, mostly retirees, as well as artists and small scale designers and non-profit activists. Amazing place
by Zara (not verified) on Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:48 PM PSTI had the good fortune to be there for Christmas, and it was very much alive and open and busy through the holiday -- you should have dropped in!
If anyone is looking for a place to stay in truly grand style, I recommend this:

by Arion Barzan (not verified) on Sat Jan 03, 2009 06:31 PM PSTThank you for sharing this. Mexico is a great country with great people. San Miguel de Allende offers the best of Mexico. Its colorful architecture toegther with the cozy spots around the town and its great people will give you a warm feeling. The trick with discovering the charm of real Mexico is to get away from resort beach towns and go more in-land.
You spend a week in San Miguel de Allende and you have seen, felt and experienced the best of Mexico.
Again, thank you for sharing this Negar Khanum.
An intense light.

manners the
mask of a child
invites me to
cry, when the
moonlight
appears; I hear
a blackbird
near the sound
of a small lamp,
and everything
shines like
a terse sensibility.

Almost A Place in Heaven
by Hassan Danesh (not verified) on Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:27 AM PST...what a lovely town ...and one wonders why the mexicans instead of moving to this town keep crossing the border to come to the hell of disrespect, humilation, estrangement, alienation, and then when cut in deportation...
Almost like an imaginey town one finds in reading pocket book fictions...
Amigo! (in persian means: way too deep)
