Seattle-Tehran Poster Show

First exhibition of contemporary Iranian posters in the United States

Shoosh, a friend of mine in Seattle forwarded a link to a poster exhibition called Seattle-Tehran Poster Show (August 29 -- September 1, 2008). I went to the participating Iranian artists' website and found so many amazing posters. Brilliant works of art. Here's info about the show: "Building on the success of 2007's The Seattle-Havana Poster Show, curator Daniel R. Smith has gone half way around the world to unite the graphic design communities of Seattle and Tehran. Co-curated with Tehran designer Iman Raad, The Seattle-Tehran Poster Show is a selection of 50 posters from each city in a variety of mediums sharing cultural themes such as music, film, theater and contemporary art. Artists included range from Tehran University Professor Reza Abedini, a powerful figure in contemporary Iranian graphic design, to younger talents born since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, such as the female design duo Soha Shirvani and Reyhaneh Sheikhbahaei. These Iranian designers’ posters are paired with the work of Seattle designers, such as Cornish College Professor Robynne Raye of Modern Dog, Coby Schultz and Barry Ament of the Ames Bros and many more. When The Seattle-Tehran Poster Show premiers at Bumbershoot in August 2008, it will be the first exhibition of contemporary Iranian posters in the United States. In 2009 this exhibit will travel to Tehran where it will be shared with Iranian designers generally prohibited from visiting the U.S."

I could stare at each one and try to analyze it for a long time... this is why I have to stay at work longer than anyone else in this building!!!

It just shows how much Iran is buzzing with creativity.

I'm pleased that this is reaching the larger audience.

I enjoyed them like a little kid in a sweet shop.

There is plenty of wit in some of the designs. The artists seem to have picked up influence from all over and have ran it through their filter of cultural perspective and have come up with their own message.

You could hold University Art lectures and seminars about what they have produced and how they have achieved this.

- Homa Delvary with her Patrick Caulfield like colourful objects i.e. bright outlined simplified objects and a simple messsage which comes across so effectively. Poster 12

- Behrad JavanBakht poster 27

- Reza Abedini's use of lettering to make a king poster 31

- Farhad Fozouni 40,41

- Amirali Ghasemi 50

- Alireza Mostafazadeh 55

- Iman Raad 68

- Mehdi Saeedi 79
