After reading a few comments by what I thought was the same person with the same Chicken icon, on several blogs and articles. "Man this person is certainly active!" I thought, and looked further to see the name of the mad poster. To my astonishment, it was a different name on each post and then as they say, do-zareem oftad!
The irony of the image, namely a chicken, combined with the word "Unregistered" across it, seems highly appropos as of late! At a minimum, now at least, anyone who wants to snipe from the shadows, has a highly descriptive icon to identify and put their anonymity into the right perspective for a change.
Just goes to show what a sense of humor can do! Bravo!

Love your sense of humor
by Mahmoud Ghaffari (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 08:32 PM PSTJJ;
Love your sense of humor. Your salutaions to your readers reminds me of how MAD magazine responds to their readers, with a name added to the content of their letter. Freedom and democracy rule... you have done a good job in providing a forum for both.

Khar
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Jan 02, 2008 08:26 PM PSTHi Kentucky Fried Chicken,
Be whatever you wish to be, anonymous or registered. The donkey image would be offensive. The chicken is cute (I think). But eventually will change it to something else, just for the sake of variety. Khosh baashi.

by Kentucky Fried Chicken (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 08:13 PM PSTIf I may and since you said we can choose between anonymity and providing a bogus name I would like to stay anonymous. But I would like to request (in the spirit of democracy) to be able to use picture of a donkey when I post comments if I may. Plus I'm seriously thinking about Re-establishing the "Hezb-e Kharan-e Iran" I think it was once establish by the Toufigh magazine back in late 60's early 70's. In today’s society it will be over night political success.
The New Photo!
by G. Rahmanian (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 07:54 PM PSTSasha,
I liked your other photo better. Could be the new fluffed out hair or the tilt backward. Whatever the reason, this picture makes you look a bit overweight and older. I know I just said some stuff you may not want to hear, but as a part-time fashion advisor and since I'll be seeing your photo a lot I thought I'd like to see the more beautiful you!
I am just guessing the photo was not taken by a professional photographer. If it was, then go ahead and fire him/her!
Perhaps you could use Rosie's photographer.
Good luck!
P.S.
Looking at the photo again, I can tell what really is wrong with it. It's your black hair extended over the dark outfit you are wearing. Change the outfit or get a different perm.
Chickens
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Jan 02, 2008 07:50 PM PSTIranians are afraid to speak their mind because we can all see what can happen to you. It's just a hassle. Speaking the truth (or just plain talk) can be very costly. At the same time it's just human nature to speak out. So anonymity is a very convenient way of expression without identifying yourself. So like other aspects of their lives, they have a distinct public and private persona. It will take a long time for these kinds of attitudes to change. Already those who have lived longer outside Iran or are born abroad, feel less concerned about personal safety and are more comfortable with expressing themselves in the open. Also, as Nazy mentioned, registration does not mean that you have to give your real name. In fact the majority of those who have registered have chosen user names that are not names at all. In any case, I like every form of expression, anonymous or not. So feel free to remain a chicken :o)

New Icons
by KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 06:41 PM PSTSasha and Rosie the pictures you use are they really you? I’m just wondering. By the way, JJ should also provide alternative icons for some of the folks who want to comment, perhaps something like Donkeys or Cows. We sure can use them! :-)
Those who register still............
by Sasha on Wed Jan 02, 2008 05:59 PM PSTThose who register still have control on how much information they want to provide on themselves or none at all on the bio page. They decide if they want to receive any emails or not by blocking access on their contacts box.
You are not required to upload a real picture of you. You can find any suitable image as an avatar.

Editors, I have a suggestion
by Q on Wed Jan 02, 2008 05:50 PM PSTPlease replace the chicken with this graphic. Given the political persuation of most of these cowards, I guarantee you good results! Do it, you'll see!
BENEFITS OF REGISTRING
by Rosie T.. (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 05:25 PM PSTRegistered users get to:
-track the blogs they've posted on to see if they have gotten any replies
-track other registered users to follow their writings easily
-contact writers and other registered users off of the website
-flag posts they think should be deleted (JJ's good at following up on these)
-maintain a blogspace where readers can view their biography
-write and submit their material for publication.
Whether you use your real name or not you should register. Anyway THE CHICKEN ICON IS GETTING REALLY BORING TO LOOK AT!! TOOOOOOOO MANY CHICKENS!
Registering does not mean giving your real name
by Nazy Kaviani on Wed Jan 02, 2008 05:17 PM PSTHi Bruce and Happy New Year! I think most people don't realize that through registering with a pseudonym, they can still maintain their anonymity. Registering and leaving comments with a specific user name only enables people to use the same identity consistently. This, in turn, helps them be differentiated from generic unregistered users. That's all. In fact in the serious blogging world, a commenter's name and his consistent use of it becomes an intellectual signature for that person. On sites such as the Huffington Post, many anonymous commenters with made-up names have successfully managed to establish a respected identity of their own and be known for the caliber and depth of the comments they leave, without ever becoming known to public at large.

J. Javid was named many awful things and now
by Chicken has dignity (not verified) on Wed Jan 02, 2008 04:23 PM PSThe has turned the table naming others "Chicken". It is an insult and it is a character assassination. This "chicken" verbal abuse gets nowhere.
Why not educating posters about the benefits of using their real names?
Why not campaigning for not being anonymous?
Why not using a symbol to show the savagery of Islamic Republic of Iran for not offering full protection for freedom of speech?
Why not automating a few constructive sentences as soon as an anonymous post is posted?
Be part of solution. Throwing cheap shot is pathetic.
