A while back I made a public commitment here not to run military-related ads on iranian.com.
A couple of days ago I saw ads from the U.S. military to recruit Persian speakers and translators. I initially thought they were coming from google. Anyone can go to google AdSense and pay for their ad to show up on sites like iranian.com. We can block the ones we don't approve and have no commitment to run them. And we have done so in the past with CIA recruitment ads, Israeli military ads, pornography, certain Islamic sites...
The latest ads are different. They have already paid us directly. I had forgotten to mention to our advertising manager to refuse these sorts of ads. When I learned about the U.S. military ad, I asked that they be removed and refunded.
However, iranian.com is going through a major reorganization and we are unable to make a refund. The ads will be back up until mid-January as scheduled.
iranian.com's current investors are selling their shares and from next month I will be working with new partners. The deal has been in the works for several months. I will give you more details soon.
I apologize for this mistake. I will continue to do my best to keep iranian.com free of military-related ads.

Massoud: "the fascist fundamentalist regime"
by Sargord Pirouz on Sun Dec 26, 2010 07:58 PM PSTThis is not the language of a true academic. It's the language of emotionally-based activism, not objective analysis.
What's it to this guy, anyway? Let it be, Massoud. Let those people be! 98.2% voted in favor of the IRI. 85% voted in the last election. 60% voted for Ahmadinejad.
Don't take my word for it, review the poll results:
//www.docstoc.com/docs/65872019/Iran-Public-O...
//www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/br...
So why put the personal emotions of an irrelevant self-exile over the will of the majority of Iranians actually living inside Iran? That's just not right.
Fundamentalist Terrorist Regime Bad; Democracy Good
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Sun Dec 26, 2010 07:46 PM PSTMollah,
The fundamentalist terrorist JIHADIS (like you and Iran Military Forum, No Fear, Kharmagas, etc), are the violent war mongers. The best way, if not the only way, to prevent war is to overthrow the fascist fundamentalist regime. You and other supporters of the terrorist regime on this site are here to attack the democrats (and other opposition groups) and to help the fundamentalist regime prolong its rule.
It is YOUR job to attack the opponents of the fundamentalist regime. It is the duty of the democratic forces to attack the supporters of the fundamentalist regime. It is very simple: Iranian DEMOCRATS want regime change (from the brutal fundamentalist dictatorship to a secular democratic republic) and the supporters of the fundamentalist regime want to help the fundamentalist regime prolong its rule (against regime change). Thus, our fight.

you may pass out from anger.
Who died to make you the ' Prosecutor, Judge and the Executioner'? You call yourself a DEMOCRAT but It's you who doesn't get it.
Look, if overthrowing the regime means war, destruction, invasion, death and starvation ala Iraq or Afghanistan we don't want it.
We don't want it as an Iranian, an American and as a human being. So it's you and some other misguided ones who try to shut down the voice of opposition to your 'opinion'.
I WAS surprised by those ads , and naively assumed that they
by bushtheliberator on Sun Dec 26, 2010 06:57 PM PSTreflected a willingness to sacrifice for,and serve the nation that has provided so many Iranians with a sanctuary of freedom.
My mistake. ! General Mills can buy your ads ; you can stay safe in America's bosom, and eat your Frosted Flakes.
"demonizing" the Fundamentalists-Nazi-KKK????!!!!!
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Sun Dec 26, 2010 06:39 PM PSTMollah,
To "demonize" the supporters of the fundamentalist regime is like saying to "demonize" the supporters of the KKK or Nazi party.
What I did was to simply tell the TRUTH: supporters of the terrorist regime are supporters of the terrorist regime. Heloooooooooo.
As Iranian DEMOCRAT, it is my duty to oppose and criticize and condemn the supporters of the dictatorial regime. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.
:-)
MK
Masoud, "Demonizing" your opponents aye?
by Mola Nasredeen on Sun Dec 26, 2010 06:14 PM PSTGood boy, your're a fast learner. With A Little Help From Zionists' handbook titled: 'How To Demonize Your Opponent!' You're doing a good job for them and a lousy job for the Iranian Reform Movement.
You maybe eligible to receive Funds available to 'Freedom Fighters' such as yourself, you know, for your support of the Cause. Fill out the application and send it.

Thanks Dear Rahmanian. What a great comment. I liked all parts of your comment from what the lady noted about significance of providing a good service and how that is what counts most and also part of your comment about charging them more since they are used to.

How About IRGC-Basij Cyber Army Employees on This Site?
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Sun Dec 26, 2010 06:07 PM PSTJJ jaan,
How about you set up a court to investigate those posters who pretend to be not employees of the fundamentalist terrorist regime by are employees of the IRGC-Basij Cyber Army or the IRI Ministry of Intelligence, whose job it is to attack opposition and write propaganda for the jihadis on this site???????
You can begin with Iran Military Forum, No Fear, Kharmagas, Molla and his Shotor, ?????
MK
P.S. I am kidding about the court. We should respect the rights of supporters of the terrorist regime to post here. We should criticise their garbage, and condemn them. We should respect their right to post the terrorist regime's propaganda here. My 2 cents.
Anahid jaan,
by Bavafa on Sun Dec 26, 2010 05:15 PM PSTI wouldn't be surprised if some wouldn't want to get in a small plane with me, but then they can just donate and not expect the ride it will be a lot cheaper for me :)
Meanwhile, don't gamble all of your $$$ in Vegas, I bet your odds are better here (return of investment) at IC then in Vegas
SP: details need to be worked out, specially with JJ but regarding the location it will be better if it is not too close to SF as the airspace is rather busy and more limited.
BTW, you will need to tone down your IRI rhetoric, I am thinking of charging double donation for hard core IRI supporters as fewer places tolerate such rhetoric and this is a good site to be so open to all.

by SamSamIIII on Sun Dec 26, 2010 05:05 PM PSTAre all recruiting posts banned, including posts by a certain lobby group whose members actively try to recruit bloggers on this site to become a paying member of the lobby group thru registration & donation? ;:)) If not what is stopping Rajavi omaru group or some bankrupt fossil commie org to do the same recruitment practices. Vaajehayeh man nirouii karaan daarand.. Now thats guarding our language .

Mehrdad, when I was in Vegas this past couple days
by Anahid Hojjati on Sun Dec 26, 2010 04:59 PM PSTThis is possibly unrelated but yesterday morning I got up at 5 AM and went downstairs my hotel in Vegas. Then when I wanted to go back up the elevator, This Iranian lady (more on the babe side :)) told me that she just avoided getting on an elevator with this Iranian guy because he looked weired. She told me that she actually told the guy that she was afraid of getting in the elevator with him. Then she asked me if I had won or lost. I told her that I had not even played, The Iranian lady asked me then how come I was still up and I replied that I just woke up. She on the other hand was just finishing her gambling.

by Sargord Pirouz on Sun Dec 26, 2010 04:44 PM PSTIsraeli military ads? I've never seen one.
What about the pro-war Zionist ads? How come no explanation for that? Did you return the money for those?
I agree with Q. I don't understand the grandstanding over US military ads, while at the same time allowing pro-war Zionist ads and pro-war, two-post-a-day propaganda blog posts advocating war.
Pretty lame, if you ask me.
Fund raising for IC:
by Bavafa on Sun Dec 26, 2010 04:40 PM PSTHere is my pledge in addition to my normal donation
Get the unique opportunity to fly as a passenger on a scenic flight in a unique airplane. You can use this as a simple scenic flight or you can take over the controls and turn it into a introductory flight lesson or thrill of some light acrobat maneuvers.
A donation to IC will earn you a scenic flight from me. You can donate for yourself or on behalf of girlfriend/boyfriend, birthday or any other occasion and reason you may want to. I will meet you at a nearby airport in Northern CA and you can see many parts of our beautiful state from the air.

No apology needed JJ
by Anahid Hojjati on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:44 PM PSTPeople on this site are not the type to be easily influenced by military ads. They have their own ideas about various military forces and are not that flexible about it so there is very little to no danger of some military ads influencing IC users.
No need to apologize JJ
by marhoum Kharmagas on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:39 PM PSTNo need to apologize JJ, you have kept this site very/fairly free.... I seriously doubt anyone else from right to left who screams here for democracy every minute, would have kept this site as free as it is...., that is more than one can expect from another. If someone does not like those advertisements they can write against them!
VPK, once again "logic"
by Q on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:30 PM PSTYou either support Javid's policy on military/government presence on IC or you don't. Javid does.
If you do, then you understand that he is leaving a huge loophole, which is in fact public knowledge.
Nobody said take my word for it. I asked him to fix this part of the policy. For example he could announce "No blogs by any government or military persons on duty or as part of their work" and take reasonable steps to enforce it. It makes a big difference if he goes on record with this, rather than just stick to advertising.
Your last point is also illogical.
The same argument could be applied to the ads. "Wouldn't you want to know what US Army is advertising?" You must not be familiar with how modern campaign advertising works. It's a whole multidimensional network with calculated psychological and social dimensions. Ordinary people with jobs and kids can't "fight it". The budget is far beyond what a bunch of old weekend bloggers are capable of. It is nothing short of psychological manipulation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with curtailing it when it comes to life and death situations.
If you ban spam blogs about viagra, you should have no problem banning (much less tasteful) repetative and nausiating war blogs for the same reason. The content may be called "opinion", just like a genuine viagra blog, but the manner and repetition makes it spam.
Ordinary citizens shouldn't have to spend hours of their valuable free time having to overcome such psychological operations.
Yes Q
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:15 PM PSTI do not deny that Israel is getting its voice heard. By banning "perceived" Israel voice on IR you will not even put a dent in it. But you will deprive Iranians of knowing what is being said. Better hear it than to be ignorant of them.
Assume Israel is really flooding the world media with pro war propaganda. Do you not want IC readers to know about it? What better way to read the argument; you may always argue the anti-war position.
JJ and IC:
by Bavafa on Sun Dec 26, 2010 03:12 PM PSTI appreciate the direction you are taking and also informing us in this blog. I do take offence when I see ads from organizations that are in the war business and as such found those ads offensive and wrote you about it.
As I have said before, and wrote a blog that as long as IC remains independent from the influence of special interest, and I certainly view US military industry as special interest, I will gladly donate on a regular basis to support this site and to keep it free.
After my last e-mail to you regarding this subject I started thinking of a fund raiser for IC and still like to explore options/opportunities with you.

Q do not be
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Dec 26, 2010 02:59 PM PSTridiculous. Blogs and opinions are jus that not advertisements. The whole point of them is for people to debate differing ideas.
When are you going to fix that? Don't these at least merrit some investigation?
What is your fix Q? Shut down anything you do not approve of? This is not IR; it is IC. It is based in America with freedom of speech. What investigation do you want him to do? Get a couple of private eyes to follow Fred!? You may not be liking what he says; but there is nothing to be "investigated". It is just an opinion by an anonymous person.
