Prime Minister Helen Clark has ordered an independent inquiry into the Immigration Service, saying the Cabinet's confidence has been "somewhat shattered" by the scandals that have unfolded inside it. The former head of the service, Mary Anne Thompson, resigned last week after police were called in by the State Services Commission to investigate allegations that she had falsely claimed to hold a doctorate from the London School of Economics (LSE) when she applied for public service positions.

by IRANdokht on Mon May 19, 2008 09:44 AM PDTI understand how strange this discovery must have felt for them though... they're not used to calling everyone "aghayeh mohandes" or "doctor joon" like it's customary in Iran.
I think we've learned to be more skeptical of people's claims, whether it's due to the free titles they give away in Iran when addressing people or all the masters and doctorate degrees you see on the personal profiles of used car salesmen and mechanics in So Cal
