The U.S. Justice Department is considering a change in the grounds on which the FBI can investigate citizens and legal residents of the United States. Till now, DOJ guidelines have required the FBI to have some evidence of wrongdoing before it opens an investigation. The impending new rules, which would be implemented later this summer, allow bureau agents to establish a terrorist profile or pattern of behavior and attributes and, on the basis of that profile, start investigating an individual or group.

I guess that gives a whole new meaning to the slogan that "they hate us for our freedom". Seems like it's going away one by one. Wonder who is winning here!

Already being done

FBI is already doing this type of profiling.  They investigated me (and later apologized) for an article I had written lambasiting Boeing for renaming the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf.  Just because my name was Mahmoud and not Jonathan, Boeing decided to refer me to their internal security apparatus which then contacted FBI, at which point I got a friendly visit from a badged agent.  America of the George W has turned into a scary place.  Perhaps Obama can save America, the country I beleive in and still love.

Once this is allowed to begin, there will be NO STOPPING IT.  There is absolutely NO productive results from profiling. It has been proven time and time again.  This is a Civil Rights violation.  This is a Human Rights violation.  Stop Big Brother NOW.  Can we have a more fucking useless government that we do right now?  Yes.  We can and we will if McCain is elected President.
