Sports & societal progress
by Annonymous (not verified) on Thu Aug 21, 2008 09:32 AM PDTEquating success in the sporting arena and societal progress is so absurd it defies logic! Now that failure of Iranian sporting delegation to win medals in Beijing has become a top issue those inherently opposed to IRI are trying to use this as another vehicle to attack IRI and ruling mullahs. I am not, nor have ever been, an advocate of theocracy or mixing religion with state affairs but in all fairness cannot claim my beloved Iran is backward or Iranians are living in stone age just because our atheletes did not win at Olympics. At a personal level the only bothersome issue is not hearing my national anthem played. If you want to be critical of current regime or want to prove our society's backwardness do it in a constructive way....Talk about current rate of iflation, corruption, devastating devaluation of Rial, the fact that after all these years oil still constitues over 80% of our foreign trade, etc, etc.etc..... Leave sports out of it!

U.S has 29 gold medals so far, Iran has none. Second, in Afghanistan’s case, damn sure, it’s a sign of progress, what is it then? Sign of regress? Look at China, 3-4 Olympics ago, they had 5-6 gold medals, now they got 50ish. That’s not the case in every country, for example, Zimbabwe has gold medals too, but that country is going down the toilette. But in Afghanistan and China’s case, yes, it is sign of progress.
Soufi,
What on earth are you talking about?

by Amir Nasiri (not verified) on Wed Aug 20, 2008 09:51 PM PDTThanks to IRI, their Islamic regime and their fascist supporters on iranian.com.
We are not only going backward we are actually living in the stone ages.
One only needs to examine Iran;s judicial and constitution and will find out how backward we are.
In sports were behind countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and even Ethiopia.
Yes Mr. Soufi, this is a sign of backwardness.

If winning in Olympics is a sign of 'progress", I guess your zio-nazi friends are living in stone age!
