A Nobel Peace Prize laureate says the United Nations should suspend or revoke Israel's membership for defying resolutions over years.

Some 65 UN resolutions condemning Israeli actions against Palestinians have been defied by Tel Aviv.

Mairead Maguire, a 64-year-old Irish, who won the 1976 peace prize, said at a Thursday news conference that its reluctance to take heed of UN resolutions should be followed with some sort of punishment, the Associated Press reported.

Meanwhile, thanks to Washington's membership in the Security Council, at least 40 anti-Israeli UNSC resolutions have been vetoed by since 1972.

Since 2004, Washington has vetoed three resolutions which called on Tel Aviv to halt its operations in the Gaza Strip.

The region had been previously occupied by Israel. Since the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the strip has regularly suffered from Israeli rocket attacks which have caused the death of a large number of civilians in the area.

what if?

while 65 is pretty excesive there are plenty of other countries who have ignored the U.N. If we kick out everyone who has disobeyed the U.N there wouldn't be much of an organization left. For goodness sakes it is the U.N. you know the people with the blue hats that are known for being ineffective.
most of the time the U.N resolutions are like surveys that news agencies do, sure their important but they don't do anything.

It is interesting. Only the Iranian propaganda maestro at it presstv site talks about it.

How many resolution passed by the USC against Iran were ignored by the Mullahs?, demanding to stop their nuclear enrichment program?.

How may innocent Iranians throughout Iran have their fundamental rights of basic freedom being violated by the Mullahs. Day in and day out, young man and woman are deprived their right to express themselves. They are told how to dress, how to speak, what to speak, and whom to speak or not. Where to go and not to go. Whom agree or disagree with.

Freedom to follow their hearts and spend time with and marry the ones whom they fell in love with - instead of that despikable "khas-e-gaarry" arranged  marriage.

Worry about your own backyard, before you look for dirt in other people's one.

Don't try to be more Palestinian then the Pals themselves.
