Tehran mayor announces Iran's readiness to regulate Karbala municipal affairs

Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf here Friday announced Iran's readiness to regulate holy Karbala city's municipal affairs for a three-month period.

Qalibaf put forth the proposal on the sidelines of the Asian Capitals and Metropolitan Cities Mayors Conference in Tehran in a meeting with the head of Holy Karbala City Council, Nouri at-Tayyeb, adding, "It was formerly agreed that the Iraqi Government would pass a ratification to put us in charge of Karbala municipal affairs, including the city's cleaning services, but thus far such a ratification has not been issued."
He added, "Since the Iranians are deeply in love with Imam Hussain (P), we are willing to offer lots of municipal services to the holy city of Karbala."
The Mayor of Tehran once again reiterated that the central government of Iraq was supposed to pass a ratification to commission Tehran Municipality the task of garbage collecting without announcing a tender for the purpose, adding, "As soon as such an agreement would be signed we would be able to offer services there."
The mayor of Tehran added, "If that contract is signed Tehran Municipality will also be ready to heed the holy Karbala city's municipal affairs after the turn of the new lunar year, as of Moharram 1st."
