New York, January 9, 2009) – The government of Iran should amend or abolish broadly worded national security laws used to stifle peaceful dissent in the country's Kurdish areas and end arbitrary arrests of Kurdish critics and dissidents, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The 42-page report, "Iran: Freedom of Expression and Association in the Kurdish Regions," documents how Iranian authorities use security laws, press laws, and other legislation to arrest and prosecute Iranian Kurds solely for trying to exercise their right to freedom of expression and association. The use of these laws to suppress basic rights, while not new, has greatly intensified since President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power in August 2005.

by I wonder (not verified) on Tue Jan 13, 2009 06:13 AM PSTAdolf Hitler was elected democratically but he almost destroyed Germany, let alone half of the world and millions of Jews, what does that prove? What? you want six million Jews to be driven into the sea as well?!!
How're mullahs gonna do that?
~=?!
by Ajam (not verified) on Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:29 PM PSTEquating Hamas to BM and/or RB is a disingenuous anology! Badermeinhof members and the Red Brigades did not grow up in refugee camps in their own occupied country and were definitely not democraticly elected!

by Darius Kadivar on Mon Jan 12, 2009 02:24 PM PSTBebakhshesh, She had a Bad Christmas Gift and it spoiled her Christmas ... So she doesn't want to admit her own misjudgment.
Like All her Comments she jumps to conclusions on everything and everybody in her One Dimensional World:

Her Likes Gave Iran to the Mullahs and now are Ready to give the World to Islamo Fascists on a Silver Plate and continue to pretend that they are experts in identifying the Good from the Bad ...
Tomorrow they will justify the Al Quaeda and Hamas Terrorist Attacks and Suicide Attempts on Israelians or Western Civilians Just as those who did the same by overlooking the Baader Meinhoff Terrorists and Red Brigades in the 70's.
For such ANN TELECTUALS Like MARGE Sex, Drugs, Blind Violence and Rock' n Roll is all that Matters ... As Long as they Can blame others for their own ignorance. They will show more support for Radicals in HAMAS than for Moderate Palestinians in the course and they are still so dishonest to admit to their lack of vision and insight into the world of International Politics.
PEACE AND LOVE ! HANOI JANE !

Kurds
by Iranian Kurd (not verified) on Mon Jan 12, 2009 01:10 PM PSTHypocrisy is part of so called Persian culture. In any given day, everyone is concerned with the Palestinian and what is going on in Gaza. No one is concerned with what is going on with Iranian Kurds who have been under bombardment for many years including past regimes.
It is sad to say that speaking your language and reading in your language is a crime today. All you have to do is look at Kurdish local flag with bright Sun in the middle instead of anything ells. It is a sign of old Persians.
Oh how nice that you care about the Kurds!
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:21 AM PSTI wonder if you would have been concerned back in the day when good old Mohammad Reza tossed them aside like dirt. You'd probably defend it with a youtube video.
