What would be a good punishment, I fantacise ...
by mehrnaz (not verified) on Sun Jan 25, 2009 05:24 PM PSTThe title is David Edwards' and as it says in the article according to the UN's official Rapporteur on Torure, "Judicially speaking, the United States has a clear obligation" to bring proceedings against Bush and Rumsfeld". It is very unlikely that it would of course, but the important fact is that the issue is not put to rest and the fact of the UN officials pursuing it, is significant at least in terms of lending validity to the idea and keeping it alive.
I wonder what would be a good punishment though. Not execution or torture, in my liking, it is too quick off the hook with killing and in both cases dehumanising all round. I think the best punishment would be lifelong religious education by a very pleasant "moolah", or even worse, five times a week Kleinian psychoanalysis. Both ways are very humane and serves bloody them right!
Misleading title
by Anonononono (not verified) on Sat Jan 24, 2009 07:43 PM PSTNo part of the report says Bush can be prosecuted regardless of US action. That is because the UN can't bring action on its own. Any prosecution in the International Criminal Court can proceed only subjet to UN Security Council approval. Guess who has a veto in the UN Security Council. More importantly US hasn't ratified the relevant treaty (The Rome Treaty) & therfore isn't subject to ICC. ALl this to say your title is misleading.
