The Continuity of Obama’s Change

Obama was praised for signaling a clean break with the catastrophic legacy of his predecessor -- one all too evident in the ruins of, most recently, Gaza. Such attitudes, however, represent a leap of faith unwarranted by the history of US policy toward Israel-Palestine and, more to the point, developments on the ground, still smoldering from Israeli bombardments of unprecedented intensity.

In his inaugural speech, President Obama said: "To the Muslem world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect." Can the steps he has taken so far - e.g. to address the Israel-Palestine conflict - promise a way forward? We'll see.
