Officials of Barack Obama's administration have drafted a letter to Iran from the president aimed at unfreezing US-Iranian relations and opening the way for face-to-face talks, the Guardian has learned.
>>>"... we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." President Obama is standing by his words as spoken in his inaugural address. Will Tehran extend an unclenched fist?

The Magician's Game
by Hamid Y. Javanbakht on Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:49 PM PSTIndeed negotiating with Iran may not be fruitful, if only it was a fist to unclench...it's a Gordian knot, and the Alexanderian solution will only set them back, not solve the problem. What is the final solution? Both sides need to find various degrees of common purpose. Iraq is one example of an elementary collaboration to maintain transitive security. Or they might already just be on the same team at the highest levels, and just not know it, this foreign policy sideshow just for entertainment.
mullahs will stall for time for as much as possible
by Futile (not verified) on Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:22 AM PSTMullahs will never ever trust the U.S. and the world to stand by their words after witnessing how they pulled the rug from under the feet of their closest ally, the late Shah of Iran and so many other examples around the world.
Besides, they have invested so much into building what they THINK they desperately need to guarantee their survival and rule for ever in Iran. Therefore, they will do anything to stall for as much time as possible to divert the world's attention including endless negotiations with the Obama administration, until they build the bomb.
