While many analysts predicted a rosier picture for United States-Iranian relations with the President Barack Obama administration, the situation is rapidly becoming profoundly more difficult and more complicated. The new dimension is Russia.

by Niyaz (not verified) on Wed Feb 04, 2009 02:03 PM PSTDear Rosie: I think I'm going to translate that interview I mentioned earlier to DK myself. I think it's a great starting point to streamline my own thoughts. It would take a few days though. take good care my friend. You're not a minority, I don't believe in such arbitary concepts; you a human being first and foremost and a beautiful one at that:)
No, iNiyaz, honest to god I swear, my blood wasn't boiling at
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Feb 04, 2009 01:37 PM PSTall. I was really trying to explain something I MYSELF have been thinking about--what IS my role as omeone who actually ISN'T expert n politics and operates by intuiton and pattern often in these discussions, what SHOULD be my role with these feeds. I was REALLY trying to work it out, I meant what I said. If you can inform me do but I am feeling more and more my views are worthwhile to articultate. I was kind of defending myself as a "minority opinion" that's why it was stilted, formal, but no boiling blood! :o Be that as it may it was obviously a misunderstanding probably because you wrote quickly. Thanks for taking so much time to reply.
NO APOLOGIES NO APOLOGIES MOTSHAKERAM...
Yes I agree the topic you're grappling with is fascinating but doesn't really belong on this thread. If you want to contact me privately its' rjgoldbird@aol.com.
Oh one more thing, I'm not a liberal I'm a leftist (new Left, "soft" socialist") It is a very different way of viewing the world.
Thanks again.

by Niyaz (not verified) on Wed Feb 04, 2009 01:16 PM PSTDear Rosie: Please accept my sincere apologies. I should have qualified my statement by saying "not well-informed in Iranian domestic politics and psychee. By psychee, I mean the "Iranian hardware"; the operating system. The Iranian operating system is Mac while the Western liberal operating system is Microsoft. The computer crashes if you try to run a software on an incompatible operating system.
Major command lines and algorhithms have to be changed to make it compatible. I've been thinking about this a great deal lately but haven't been able to put it together in a cohesive formula. I'm working on it and inspirations come in leaps and bounds. Stand by, I will eventually get it right...lol
Again, I'm sorry for raising your blood pressure. Please forgive my haste.
On the issue of personal vs political: I am not a political animal and not well-read as you are in political science. I have rudimentary ideas, however, I don't think I need to be well versed in politics to do my own research and figure out the real truth as it is vital to the future of my family and their well beings.
Niyas..
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:24 PM PSTI would rather have the discussion in public since it is about politics and your perception that I am way off the mark. You did say you wee in a rush so I'm not sure when you said I'nm not well-read if you meant in politics or in general but what it says unfortunately means in general. I assure you that I am one of the best read people on this site. As regards politics this is not the case, however it must be said that millions of people ARE well-read in politics and there are an equal number of view points. In fact many of them diamentrically opposed by VERY versed people As you can see by the bitter polarizatoins on this site between people who are extraordinarly well-read in politics. So actually since I spend an awful lot of time googling the news and have an exceptional head for patterns I actually think my views could be very helpful, at least certain perspectives because there is such a thing as not being able to see the forest for the trees. So I take exception with your statement that my opinons on the current geopolitical situation are basically worthless. Which does not mean that you could not enlihten and inform me and improve them. As well as others. Which is why I would prefer to have the discussion privately.
Anyway thanks for your kind commentss, I do understand that the post was kind. Very kind. I just take excepton with certain things in it, that's all.
Btw I am one of the least ideologically motivated people there is and on this site among the regular political bloggers by leaps and bounds. I am first and foremost a pacifist and that eclipss any ideological consideration that ever could enter my head. I participate in the political blogs as a mediator and a learner. II rarely offer a concrete assessment. I only gave an assessment herer because others were dong so on my own thread so I thought I'd throw in mine to the mix.
I didn't address that post to anyone in particular.
My views on Gaza and Hamas and Israel are strictly humanitarian. I can assure you.

by niyaz (not verified) on Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:25 AM PSTRosie jan: You're a wonderful human being, kind-hearted with unparalleled genrosity of spirit, however, you're not well-informed, well-read, and unfortunately, everything is political/ideological to you not personal.
Would you please step back and realize that lives and futures are at stake in this political brinksmanship?
Your friendship with Iranians is called Doosti-e-Khaleh Kherseh.
I know you don't understand because I have not done a good job communicating what I'm trying to say. I'm pressed for time, right now. will disucss this later privately..if you like.
My general opinion:
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:03 AM PSTIran is not cooperating with Obama because they can't after US's deplorable role in backing Gaza and now the bombings in Pakistan and Afghanistan. And Erdogan's grandstanding and Peres' obvious sickness. Russia is backing Iran to maintain a balance of power in the region and to assert that THEY wil never be pimp of NATO crowd. They will always be the mddle guy, they will never back Islamic fundamentalism etc.
In reality as we speak Russia, China, US, France, Britain, Germny are meeting over the Iran question (nukes, Hamas, etc.) while they have been planning a second meeting to INCLUDE Iran on the Afghanistan problem.
In reality Iran would LOVE to join Obama in bombing Afghanistan and Pakistan because the Taliban is lethal for them but obviously they cannot.
In reality Obama has just footed the bill for Fatah to give reconstruction aid to Gaza that Israel refuses to give. This is a distancing from Israel which was long overdue for numerous reasons.
In reality Iran continues to supply Hamas w/weapons while US continues to block them but IRI is considering a proposal to use Iran to supply route for NATO military to Afghanistan.
In reality while Obama bombs Pakistan India and Pakistan are making steps toward recnciliation.
In reality there are many pieces of the puzzle and they are coming together to make a new puzzle which in the end should turn out to yield a far more equitable balance in the world There isn't going to be a major war (obviously Israel and Hamas are still involved in a more minor one than before..).
US out of Iraq and Iranian ties w/NATO in Afghanistan will lead to a relaxing of the hardliners in Iran. It will be a good step forward. Hardliners only took over when Iran got flanked militarily by US. Soon that should be history.
In reality I think the Russia/Iran situation is a wonderful thing. Iran will want to cooperate w/NATO about the Afghanistan problem, Russia will support them, so Iran won't bomb anything (not that they were going to anyway, all bluster no bite). Israel will have to contain itself because of US pressure.
I think the Russia/Iran ties are an excellent thing.
Call me stoopid but that is what I think.
