Is Iran prepared to undo 30 years of anti-Americanism?

"On that day when the United States of America will praise us, we should mourn," said Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, leader of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution. His words so captured the uncompromising anti-American ideology here that they were painted like a billboard across the old US Embassy wall in Tehran, standing for years as a message of defiance to the West. Today the quote is gone, recently painted over as if to signify a softening of Iran's hard-line rhetoric. But as President Obama spells out his wish to engage with Iran, is the Islamic Republic – which marks its 30th anniversary next week – really ready to set aside decades of official hatred for the "Great Satan"?

"We will obliterate you if you don't" would be enough for me. Actually, I don't even think IRI wants to deal with Amrika at all. They'd rather not. Much easier to talk a big talk (same for USA) than sit down and make a serious plan. Bush avoided it quite well and he knew there were enough Zionists and Israelis to go around who would make a stink about the Moolahs this and Ayatollahs that.

We'll see. Thanks for the article.

I think there has been a deal between IRan and the US.

1. Assigning PJEK as a terrorist organization

2. Planting articles like the above article in the media

30 years ago almost everybody including the Seyyids wanted the U.S. out of Iran now almost all of those people including the Seyyids want the U.S. back in Iran!

Do they really think the U.S. can get rid of all their problems for them and guarantee the survival of their regime?

p.s. mullahs have always given mixed signals going back to Khomeini era, they call it ZERANGI

Capt ayhab,

No they’re not. IRI will never end its blind and irrational anti Americanism, because that anti Americanism is the cornerstone of its survival.

Regime’s existence is based on anti Americanism. They have justified all their crimes, all their murders, all their destruction, in the name of anti Americanism. They have dug a hole that they cannot get out of. Unfortunately, they have taken the Iranian people down that hole with them.
