Republican strategy of deny, delay and do nothing

As the fight over President Obama's economic recovery package heats up, the two sides are beginning to define themselves with admirable clarity.
The president says we have a crisis that is heading toward a catastrophe.
The Republicans, on the other hand, have honed their economic message: Denial, Delay, Do Nothing.

I loved the show.

You are so right, and not to mention the fact that just past Monday, THEY announced that banks were paid 80 BILLION OVER and ABOVE what they should have been paid for the alleged[ASSETS] they acquired, from the first TARP that is.

I bet Republicans think that Joe the Plumper will make an excellent Treasury Sec. The man is not even a plumper.

Republican's alleged TAX CUT proposal is designed to serve the RICH and RICH only. Just like people[Corp. Executives, Wall Street THIEVES] who were paid MILLIONS in bonuses for screwing the country, need more tax relief.

Give me a break pleaseeeeeeeeee

Bush's ANTI science, ANTI intelligent, Fear tactics, Denial, deception of the nation, along with Chaney's [LITTLE SHOP OF HORROR], regarding torture and [Patriot Act] got us to this shamble.

Hopefully, with the number of highly educated, intelligent advisers that Mr. Obama has surrounded himself with will pull the country out of this mess.

Anytime I listen to Mr. Obama , I can't help but feel proud how educated, intelligent, calculated, calm and collected the man is. And certainly he is a breath of fresh air, not only to USA, but HOPEFULLY to the world as a whole.

The News Conference

by farokh2000 on

It was a breath of fresh air to see how Obama managed the News Conference on Monday night.

It was professional, intelligent, and he actually was answering the questions and even pronouncing the names correctly.

One thing he said that the idiots who were running the mess for last 8 years have already forgotten was " I am not the one who created this mess. I am trying to fix it.

Obviously, they don't want to get it. Bush's policy from the start was deny, deny, deny.

Not one of his News Conferences was professional and intelligent.Nothing he did was.

He was a total  disaster and created one of the biggest disasters this Country has ever faced.

Here are some of the argument Republicans set forth against stimulas bill, and the reasons why they are at wrong. I am quoting verbatim from the New York Time:

[As the debate over US President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan gets under way, one thing is certain: Many opponents of the plan aren’t arguing in good faith. Conservatives really don’t want to see a
second New Deal, and they certainly don’t want to see government activism vindicated.
Some of these arguments are obvious
cheap shots. But the obvious cheap shots don’t pose as much danger to the Obama administration’s efforts to get a plan through as arguments that are equally fraudulent but can seem superficially plausible to
those who don’t know their way around economic concepts and numbers. So, as a public service, let me try to debunk some of the major
anti-stimulus arguments that have already surfaced. Any time you hear someone reciting one of these arguments, write him or her off as a dishonest flack.
First, there’s the bogus talking point that
the Obama plan will cost $275,000 (Rs1.34 crore) per job created. Why is it bogus? Because it involves taking the cost of a plan that will extend over several years, creating millions of jobs each year, and
dividing it by the jobs created in just one of those years. The true cost per job of the Obama plan will probably be closer to $100,000 than $275,000—and the net cost will be as little as $60,000 once you take into account the fact that a stronger economy means higher tax receipts.
Next, write off anyone saying that it’s always better to cut taxes than to increase government spending, because taxpayers, not bureaucrats, are the best judges of how to spend their money. The point is nobody really
believes that a dollar of tax cuts is always better than a dollar of public spending. Meanwhile, it’s clear that when it comes to economic stimulus, public spending provides more bang for the buck than tax cuts— and so costs less per job created—because a large fraction of any tax cut will be saved.
This suggests that public spending
rather than tax cuts should be the core of any stimulus plan. But rather than accept that implication, conservatives take refuge in a
nonsensical argument against public spending in general.
Finally, it’s true that the normal response to recessions is interest-rate cuts from the Fed, not government spending. That might be the best option, if it were available. But it isn’t, because we’re in a situation not
seen since the 1930s: The interest rates the Fed controls are already effectively at zero. That’s why we’re talking about large-scale fiscal stimulus: It’s what’s left in the policy arsenal now that the Fed has shot its bolt.
These are only some of the fundamentally
fraudulent anti-stimulus arguments. Basically, conservatives are throwing any objection they can against the Obama plan, hoping something will stick. But here’s the thing: most Americans aren’t listening.....]

As you see my friend, most all the fundamental arguments Republicans have made is ludicrous to say the least. Their arguments are designed to DECEIVE the nation , as they have been doing for past 8 years.
Asides from that, what can one expect from a party who has Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Sara Palin as their leaders. And not to mention the recent JEWEL they have added as RNC leader, Mr. Michael Steele, and the changes(LOOOL) he is going to bring about.

Obama said it best

In an answer to "that guy" McCain, he said:

They are criticizing the stimulus package as "spending", while laughing he continues "And that's exactly what it is, spending. what did they think it is?"

Republicans just don't get it. Ask any republicans about the economy and all they can say is "tax cuts". Tax cuts, that's just about as far their economic theory goes. Take a look at the historical data, don't take my words and see what tax cuts of Republicans have done to this country.

Do the Republicans understand the idea behind the government spending? It has no word "tax cuts" in it!

I am not against the tax cuts, but depending on the economy, tax cuts can easily hurt rather than help.

On a sunny day, January 21,

by teapot (not verified) on

On a sunny day, January 21, 2009, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S.Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine looked at the man and said, 'Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'

The old man said, 'Okay', and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'

The man thanked him and again just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, 'Sir, this is the third day in row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?'

The old man looked at the Marine and said, 'Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.'

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow, sir.'

Before you get all "300" on the GOP, two things to be aware of:

1) The Democrats have taken advantage of this potential catastrophe (as the president properly described it) to insert all sorts and types of earmarks and enough pork, to give every man woman and child in the US a case of trichinosis. Luckily some, but not all, was caught and removed.

2) As a result of TARP #1 being a total jerk-off of resources, public approval of these bailouts have fallen from nearly 60% to just over 50%.

I agree that there needs to be a solution, but the same yo-yos in Washington who deregulated financial services (Barney Frank, Paul Kanjorski, Maxine Waters, et al) and created this mess are not the ones who should be involved in any "solutions".
