You may recall that we reported two days ago on the announcement by former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who has favored detente with the West, that he intends to run again for president this year.

Now The Times of London reports that a mob attacked Khatami Wednesday during celebrations in Tehran marking the 30th anniversary of the Islamic revolution in Iran.

The Times says Khatami was hustled to safety by bodyguards after stick-waving attackers approached the cleric, shouting: “Death to Khatami. We do not want American government.”
