Banality of evil
by Asghar_Massombagi on Mon Feb 16, 2009 01:28 PM PSTTwo things jumped at me in this interview. First, Montazeri's continuous courage and his unbowed head(and that of those around him) to speak truth to those who have committed crimes against humanity in the past 30 years. He challenges them on religiouse ground on issues such as human rights and clergy's participation in politics. He challenges dictatorial concept of Velyat faghih and has no qualms dismissing Khomeini himself. It's facniating to hear him to talk about the central slogan of 1979 revolution: Freedome, Independence, Islamic Republic. You can't have one without the other two, in the process dismissing a fundementalist interpretation of a possible Islamic repubic. All power to the little big man from Qum. Second is the absolute callousness of the rubbish who have been in charge of people's lives in Iran. The detail about the guy who tells Montazari they have lined up 700 candidates for execution and they might as well go ahead before further talks on the legitmacy of the executions is blood curdling to say the least. You'd think the bastard was talking about insects, not that insects are any less deserving of compassion. How do these people sleep at night?
white wash!
