Renowned as a brilliant diplomat and analyst, even-handed in his assessments of the Middle East and not bound by the Israel-first consensus that the Israel lobby has fought so hard to establish in US Middle East policy, Mr Freeman was denounced by Steve Rosen, a former top American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) official, as “a profoundly disturbing appointment”.

Disturbing Appointment?

Free Preparation-H for AIPAC!

Steve Rosen was the AIPC who along with Keith Weisman ran the anti-Iran operations out of AIPAC. The the US intelligence agencies had been working on the spionage case these two gentlement and their contact at the Pentagon, a man named Lary Franklin. Franklin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 years in prision. Rosen and Weisman were "fired" and their case is being litigted in the US courts at the present time. Weisman thinks he will be convicted but Rosen thinks he'll walk. To prove his audaciity Rosen has joinded another right wing Israel-sponsored "think tank" and has effectively started lobbying against Iran.

"Our eyes are wide open with regard to Iran," Clinton told the UAE top diplomat, adding "We're under no illusions."

Translation: We know diplomacy (no amount of carrots or sticks) won't stop Iran. We have moved on and are planning our strategy accordingly...We don't trust the Islamic Republic EITHER.

Clinton doubtful Iran will respond to U.S. initiatives

www.chinaview.cn 2009-03-03
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, March 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said here on Monday that she doubts Iran will respond to a U.S. initiative over contacts, a senior U.S. official revealed.

Clinton, who is here to attend an international conference for rebuilding the Gaza Strip, made the remarks during a meeting with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Egypt is the first stop of Clinton's first Middle East tour after taking office as the U.S. secretary of state, which will also take her to Israel and the Palestinian land.

"Our eyes are wide open with regard to Iran," Clinton told the UAE top diplomat, adding "We're under no illusions."

U.S. President Barack Obama has said that his administration would seek engagement with all Middle Eastern states including Iran.

The United States and other western countries have questioned Iran's uranium enrichment program, claiming that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons.

Iran, however, insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes. It continues its uranium enrichment activity despite pressure from the West.

Very, very interesting article - Mr. Freeman!

by Derakhshandeh (not verified) on

Renowned as a brilliant diplomat and analyst, even-handed in his assessments of the Middle East and not bound by the Israel-first consensus that the Israel lobby has fought so hard to establish in US Middle East policy, Mr Freeman was denounced by Steve Rosen, a former top American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) official, as “a profoundly disturbing appointment”.

Last October Mr Freeman castigated President Bush for “writing blank cheques to Israel, which harms it by depriving Israelis of any immediate incentive to make the hard choices they must make to achieve long-term security for themselves and their state… it benefits no one for the United States to continue to underwrite the injustices, indignities, and humiliations of the occupation”.

His appointment was all the more remarkable given such statements, and the ire they provoked among Israel’s traditionally influential backers. Clearly, Dennis Ross’s reliably pro-Israel advocacy is not going to go unchallenged in the new administration.
