Mr. Bashir was charged by the prosecutor of an international criminal tribunal with crimes against humanity and war crimes. Messrs. It now appears that Mr. Bashir too is relying on religious and ethnic allegiances to evade accountability for his crimes, with the Muslim world as a main focus of his efforts. The international community -- with Muslims at the forefront -- should instead stand with Mr. Bashir's victims and demand that he be brought to justice at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr. Bashir has tried to paint the charges against him as a neocolonial, anti-Muslim assault on Arab and African sovereignty.

Hey wait a second! / AMUSED...
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Thu Mar 12, 2009 08:48 AM PDTThe issue here is not about the ICC and whose interests it represents. The issues are twofold:
1) al-Bashir responded to a war crimes indictment with a war crime. He removed thirteen international aid agencies responsible for the basic food and medical needs of up to two million people when he can't even be extradited, so as long as he keeps his a-s in Sudan he's home free, without providing another plan for feeding these people (if you know of one please do let me know. IRI's not feeding them are they?).
2) IRI and Hamas voiced their support for him at the same exact moment they were still holding the Palestinian Summit to indict the Israeli government for war crimes in Gaza> Whether they intended for the indictment to be through the ICC or another country is irrelevant, the war crimes indictments by specific countries' precedent was set by Spain with Pinochet so it is a Wesstern model anyway. (Ahmadinejad wants to give such rights to hold those trials to Iranian judiciary, it is being considered by Majlis, doesn't matter, it's still a Western model).
I am not even going to get into the internecine politics of the Sudanese-Darfur guerrillas situation, honestly I don't really know enough about it to say for sure whether al-Bashir is guilty of war crimes (although I have my suspicions...) But if Oxfam was involved in a conspiracy for Western hegemony over the Sudan then why didn't he evict Oxfam earlier? Come on. He did this out of spite and he doesn't care how many people drop dead about it which--call me naive--would seem to substantiate the possiblity that he might've been capable of other depredations. But what do I know?
It is bad enough that a quarter million people are facing starvation in Sri Lanka and no one cares about them because it's a little island in the middle of the ocean with no geopolitical significance whatsoever.
It is far worse to talk about agendas when so many people are dying to politicize their lives and deaths for your own agenda. And you know what, AMUSED? THE FACT THAT YOU FIND THIS AMUSING SAYS IT ALL
YOU go replace Oxfam and feed those people. No better yet. YOU GO LIVE THE WAY THEY LIVE AND SEE HOW AMUSED YOU'LL BE.
PS The UN resolution to support the war crimes indictment was vetoed by China. China gets it s oil from Sudan. RUSSIA DID NOT VETO IT AND RUSSIA PROBABLY HAS THE CLOSEST TIES TO IRI THAN ANY POWER IN THE WORLD.
So much for Mahmood Gandhi.
Just because the Wall Street Journal stinks doesn't mean what al-Bashir or IRI just did doesn't stink. What will the world be like after YOUR Utopian revolution I'd love to know, Amused? What great evolutionary changes are you going to contribute to the future of humanity?
Tell me when you come back from Darfur.

by BK (not verified) on Thu Mar 12, 2009 04:04 AM PDTIn your anti-Western rant you asked "why is Sudan of such interest to the Western imperialist-colonialists"? The answer is that it isn't! Because if it had been, Sudan probably would've been invaded Sudan by now.
You also claim that ICC is a tool of "Western Imperialism". So what if it is or if it isn't? Does that in any way diminish the suffering of the Darfur people? Indeed, should it be allowed to do?
Should the fact you are busting a gut over "Western Imperialism" mean that Sudanese leadership be excused from committing these atrocities in Darfur? Should everything that goes wrong in the world always be blamed on "Western Imperialism", as you see it, and no one else be held accountable for their actions?
Babak jaan, there is no
by Farhad Kashani on Wed Mar 11, 2009 07:19 PM PDTBabak jaan, there is no anger, because Khomeini’s regime has brainwashed many Muslims to think that anything and everything is justified as long as its done in the name of Islam and/or by Muslims. By anything I mean genocide, rape, murder, imprisonment, exile, ..Everything is justified. And if someone dares to object it, then they, along with their leftist allies, immediately label you as “anti Islam” and “Promoter of Islamphobia”.!!!
This double standard is bringing the world closer and closer to a devastating state of war and terrorism.

by tsion on Wed Mar 11, 2009 04:40 PM PDTExactly like the "Bleeding Hearts" of this lovely website. You have to understand this, if you can't implicate Jews or demonize Israel with something, it is useless for them. No "poetess" to weep tears out of her groins, no "humanitarians" to go to any demonstrations and preach everyone about what "humanity" demands... . Those are reserved for whenever the propaganda can twist things somehow to implicate Jews in them. So please, don't waste your breath.

You know why we don't fall for alligator tears shed for Darfur?
by amused (not verified) on Wed Mar 11, 2009 08:55 AM PDTBecause we have come to see the advertising and public relations machinations behind the fake tears being shed for Darfur. See, the problem with the domination of zionist-controlled media is that after a while it becomes easy to detect certain patterns and rhetoric that keep getting repeated -- not to mention the same names and/or organizations that keep popping up.
Games's up boys and girls. More and more people are on to it now.
ICC is a tool of Western Imperialism
by Kurush (not verified) on Wed Mar 11, 2009 08:40 AM PDTOne of the salient reasons for the success of the Western propaganda has been their control of these quasi international agencies such as IAEA and ICC and the UN itself. Use your imagination for the rest of the alphabet soup. The ICC and IAEA are of course located in the West. Surprise! Surprise! The ICC judge is a Spanish judge, a Westerner! Surprise! Surprise! But why is Sudan of such interest to the Western imperialist-colonialists? Does the fact that Sudan is rich in mineral resources, especially the one starting with letter 'O,' have perhaps, just perhaps, some remote connection to the resource hungry and resourceless West's clamour for justice in Darfur? Also, now that the West is in control of the eastern edge of the Moslem world, namely Afghanistan, and the heart of the Moslem world, Iraq & Palestine, so it would be logical to go after the Wester periphery of the Moslem world, namely Sudan. Surprise! Surprise! The wicked, devious, malevolent, diabolic Western imperialists! Like Centcom overseeing the ME and the other US commands overseeing different regions of the world, the new American military nucleus overseeing the whole of the African continent, Africom, was perhaps created for idle reasons, right? With an African-American in the White House, the US military aggressions would be so much more platable and kosher, right? And if the naive in you is concerned with the human toll, please concentrate on the Western war crimes going on right now as we speak in Afganistan and Iraq, where millions of people have either perished or have become refugees. When will we take the Western leaders, such as George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Tony Blair, Berlusconi, to trial for War crimes, given the wreck they made of two nations, Afghanistan & Iraq? But with the ICC in the West's virtual control, that would be idle talk as well.

However, if you were to swap Sudan for Israel, and Darfur for Palestine, then would have a lot more success.
